European Masters Bench Press championship.
« on October 27, 2011, 04:50:29 pm by streatham dave »
My Dad Tom Collins who is a lifelong Rovers fan has just won a Bronze medal in this competition with a lift of 185kg. He was in the 105Kg weight class for over 60's. He has won various regional and British comps but this is his first medal representing GB. In International comps(World's and European's) has finished 4th and 5th in the past. As you can imagine I am highly chuffed for him and thought I would share the news. In the process he has extended his own British and Commonwealth records.:rtid:

Blimey - I think that's about the same weight as two and a bit of me! Impressive stuff, I can imagine you are indeed rightly chuffed - especially at over 60 year old! I don't know your Dad and would probably not want to piss him off in a dark alley! But send my congratulations! Let's hope there's some press coverage somewhere!

Congratulations Tom!

Have you called him a \"big lifter\" yet, Dave?  ;-)

He is very Happy as you can imagine. The GB Bench Press team are a tight knit bunch helping each other behind the scenes getting bars ready in warm ups, watching what other lifters have lifted and so on. So far in the competion just my Dad's Bronze and one Silver from a team mate but I know they will be hoping for more in the next couple of days. Thanks for all the kind comments. The supporters of the French bloke(who was third in the World earlier this year) he put into fourth were not quite so generous on the powerlifting forum but I set them straight politely but forcefully:boxing: And yes Filo he is from Stainy

Just to let those interested know the GB team ended up with 2 Silver's and 2 Bronze's. No Gold's this time around I'm afraid. Next major competition for Dad is the Commonwealth's this December where he will be representing England rather than Great Britain as they do things slightly differently. One other Donny bloke has a call up for that as well which goes to show the strength of Donny lifters.
