Great Result Today But
« on November 05, 2011, 11:25:17 pm by madmick50 »
Well done to the team today. I don't think many thought a victory would be gained. I'm just a bit concerned that our total attempts on target were three and we scored from every one. Being 3 nil up after 25 mins it's a bit disappointing that we then didn't have one more attempt on target.

Oh dear!!

There is only two statistics that matter - goals scored and goals conceaded. As long as the first is greater than the second who cares?

Pipe down.

Would you rather go back to the usual 20/30 attempted shots and 1 or none scored with the opposition having 3 shots and scoring 3?

I'm not complaining its just that you would expect any team that was 3 up after 25mins to be full of confidence and have at least one more attempt on target during the remaining 70 minutes.

we didnt score the 3rd until the 39th min. We created many chances in the first half other than the goals.

My mistake, 3 goals in 39 minutes not 25. Total attempts on goal during the whole game was 7 (including the goals). So sounds like we did nothing but defend after the third goal went in. Like I said a great result I'm just a bit concerned that we sat back when we should have pressed on and won easily instead of scraping a 3 - 2 in the end (given how crap our defence is).

If your away from home and your 3 nil up at half time, you have to know that your gonna come under severe pressure in the 2nd half.
We had many chances throughout the game, not attempts but chances, theres a big difference. Somebody could have a shot from 30 yards that trickles into the keepers hands and that would be an attempt, but we got ourselves into good positions today and created 5 or 6 good chances.

i see where the chap might be comming from,as goal difference at end of season
could well be a life saver for us if rovers are at arse end of table.

0-3 up was looking good and ipswich were not pulling any trees up,but they still
got the score at 2-3.

how many times did you all look/stare at rovers goal difference last term then
glance at sheff utds worse goal difference and say thank fcuk.

The point he was making was not having anymore attempts on target, he didnt mention goal difference at all.

Dont presume or guess what it was like just from reading some stats. At no point in the match did we look like getting beaten. We could have had 6 in the first half. Billy was an inch away from connecting with Ilungas cross in the second as well to make it 4-1.

Exactly. Goal difference could be so important. Also how much confidence would a 5 or 6 nil thrashing have given the team? Instead the team will still be very nervous about holding onto a lead after getting pegged back to 3-2.

Were bottom of the table, weve just beaten a side who are one of favourites for promotion away from home, and people are finding things to complain about..
you wanted a 6 nil victory jesus, when was last time that happened..
Just be happy, weve won twice away from home in almost a year before today, enjoy it

I think the glass is always half-empty for some folk. I understand (from what Saunders said) that George Friend missed several good chances in the second half, so it wasn't as though we just sat back and let them come at us.

Having said that, and whatever the final result, I think if SO'D had made that late substitution (O'Connor for Diouf) he'd have got slated for it.

I do think there is a slight difference with that late substitution however. Diouf isn't fully match fit yet so to take him off in the 82 minute might have made sense.
Anyway 82 minutes wouldn't have been classed as a late substitution previously ;)

There seems to have been an acceptance of the need for a change in mentality.

Someone mentioned this could be our Forest moment. I was lucky enough to be there that game having not scored more then 1 goal in a game, we scored 4 cracking goals (conceding 2 late ones) and we know we went on to better things.

Saunders talked about upping the intensity of training and maybe the fitness levels are improving. First time I have noticed the squad doing a proper warm down after the match. We're now beginning to see players last 90 mins when they weren't before.

Also noticed we profited yesterday from getting early balls in to the box. A couple of early crosses by Copps and Stock also delivered some dangerous balls in. How many times under the SOD era did we complain about fannying about with the ball allowing defenders to get set. It got to a point where our forwards stopped making runs in to the box. With deliveries like yesterday, we can only profit. If we can teach George to finish then we might have discovered another string to his bow.

Rome wasn't built in a day. SO'D didn't build a Championship team in weeks. Saunders cannot be expected to wave a magic wand but bit by bit positive signs are beginning to show. Certainly helps with having Diouf, who on present form and attitude shows I totally misjudged him.

Just as there's been a positive swing from the players, let's do the same. Glasses half full from now on. No 'buts' just 'ands'.

We will get a centre half and new goalie when the January window opens I hope ... if we can creep out of the drop zone before then it will look much better . To keep Diouf and Chambonda will be the first real test of resolve for  the JR/DW/TB and DS team. Unless a top Championship or a Premiership club steps in with deals /// the Board just needs to assess it's position vis à vis the opportunities presented by the new set-up.

Diouf was the difference in the result. Billy scored his goal. But we continue under two managers to conceed goals at about 1.66 goals per game. So we cannot wait while Christmas to change the goal keeper, centre half and defensive midfield player. I hope we can strengthen in this two weeks ready to kick on against Barnsley and into the new year. If Diouf continues with Billy to score and we can reduce the goals against then we can get out of the bottom three. If the short term contract players leave in January then JR/DW/TB? will have to be ready with replacement, thats how this system will work.
