It always facinates me that when paying bills on the phone I'm asked for name, address d.o.b ect, I mean, how many frauds DO they get wanting to PAY someone elses bill?
I always do it if Halifax ring me. I ask them to state my post code, DOB and house number. I have never had a positive response cos they often sound confused and then try to tell me that's not how it works. Then we agree to end the call and send anything important through the post. There SHOULD be a system set up where we set up a password that ONLY us and banks etc know, then when they give the correct security question to us, we can answer there's!

It's the law unfortunately. If a company you have a service with, bank, utilities etc need to call you for any reason, by law and DPA you have to confirm your details.

These companys are ASKING for you to TELL them your details.Telling them is not confirming, confirming is them telling you, and you either agreeing the details are correct or telling them thats a load of tosh
