As a Torquay United fan and a referee, I have to say, I'm laughing at all of you. If you honestly think he'll get sacked, you're having a laugh. Do you honestly think that the FA will sack a referee after one bad performance? I would put my house on him refereeing again before the end of the season, and I think he'll probably be straight back into Football League duties next weekend! Get a grip!

The fact that you're a Torquay united fan explains alot. And you contradict yourself by saying that you're a ref and laughing at our complaints yet admit it was a bad performance. We're not saying we're down because of this one game, we're saying that we lost unfairly and you don't need to be a qualified ref (that's debateable in the refs case) to see he made mistakes. Unless you mix your football with basketball at Torquay!
So please excuse while we don't "get a grip".

One mistake a game, we can live with, 2 mistakes maybe, 3 mistakes inexcusable, but 4 mistakes that all directly influenced the outcome of the game is crass incompetence and bordering on corruption, he should be fined his match fee, be made to resit his referee`s exam and banned for a minimum of 3 games for that totally bent performance!

The fact a referee has come on to our forum to post about another says all we need to know. You wouldn't be on here if you hadn't heard how bad his game was

TV highlights say so, radio says so, home fans say so, away fans say so. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.

Have you seen the goals, by any chance? Until you do, please stop trying to defend the indefensible.

If that were a live Premiership game on Sky, the pundits and tabloids would have crucified that ref, it would have been headline back page news, if Saunders or JR get disiplined for what they`ve said, then the injustice would be complete!

The fact that we all knew we were down anyway and the comments on here shows that this was not just a lash out at a ref because we got relegated reaction, imagine if that had been the last game of the season and we needed to win it, and we suffered a refereeing performance like that and got relegated, I don`t think I could contain my anger if that had happened, I`m sure there would have been a riot! I know it won`t help us, but I want the club to push this one as far as they can, along with the help and support of all the fans organisations, it was bent, pure and simple, nothing will convince me otherwise!

Agree 100% we shouldn't lie down and let this go.

I`ve been critical of refs in the past but usually i`ve forgot about it all a couple of hours later, this one though, I`m fuming just as much now as I was after the game yesterday, if that ref was a cricketer he would be in jail for match fixing, it was that blatant!

In a word... none.

The club can have a moan to the Football League appointments officer, but he is unlikely to take much notice. The FA and FL don't look at individual match reports and marks when deciding who to retain at the end of the season - they look at the average over a whole season. If Mr Russell's average marks are sufficient to remain on the referee's list then he will remain, and we may well see him again next season.

It was more than the four goals though.  The headlock on Coppinger. The assault on Lockwood. The list goes on.  I find it hard to believe that four sets of officials' eyes missed everything, so one must deduce that there's some corruption afoot.

From what we see regularly, the refs tell the linesman what to do an they daren't make a decision without consulting the ref, even on throw ins FFS.

I have never been so incensed during and after a match. 3 blatant mistakes is more than the stomach can take and you do have to wonder if there was something very smelly going on.

So true. Lino on the East Stand side at one stage initially flagged for a corner our way before the referee said goal kick and he immediately shifted his flag. What's the point?

Glad the Portsmouth fans saw it too but then again the only set of 'fans' who would have had the gall to defend that performance in favour of them would be those of Manchester United.
