The Pompey Fans praise John Ryan

Here's a selection;

To Mr John Ryan thank you for your e-mail to Mr Birch rearding your comments of the Pompey supporters at the Keepmoat Stadium last Saturday. I have been a Pompey supporter since 1939 . I was born & bred in Portsmouth, now retired in North Wales & your email has done me the world of good. I wish Doncaster a speedy return to the Championship, hopefully along side Pompey.

Fantastic words from someone who must have been hurt by the result on Saturday. Clearly a gentleman that deserves a great deal of credit . I am already hoping that Doncaster bounce straight back (with ourselves if needed).

Blimey what a gent! And Appy played his part when he came back out to meet the fans and join in the silly celebrations. Makes you believe again.

Wow mr Ryan thanks ever so much! Unfortunately I couldn't attend the game due to the ar5e of a job I have however attend every match I possibly can!! LORD MARK I'm actually on a job in Swansea at this moment small world aint it! Currently dreaming of one hell of a great escape in my digs (hotel) in neath! Back to the email it's with great sadness to see your club relegated and wish you all the best in your quest for an immediate return to the English second tier and beyond!! Football needs more guys like yourself!! PLAY UP POMPEY AND PLAY UP DONNY!!

These are very generous words from Mr Ryan, after his angry comments on TV on Saturday about the refereeing - thank you Sir, you are a true gentleman. For those who don't know Doncaster's history, only 14 years ago the club was on its knees, relegated to the non-league and its own chairman tried to burn down the ground in an insurance fraud so it could be redeveloped for housing. Mr Ryan came in and rescued the club and they not only gained promotion back to the league in 2003 but made their way up to the Championship in 2008. Food for thought for us there.

mr ryan thanks would you like to buy a club ???

Nice touch :) Any friends that want to buy a club too ?

Many of them did on the forum that I checked. In fact their's were some of the most balanced and non partisan comments I've ever read on a football forum. Gave me a totally different view of Pompey fans which has been coloured for 33 years by nearly getting a pint pot in my head on Carr House Road.

If those fans are representative, then the very best of luck to them getting out if their current predicament.

I just thought I would add this one too!! Its more about the club than JR but;

Praise to the Donny people as well!

Was in the Donny clubhouse with 60 to 70 other Pompey fans before game. Was talking to one Pompey bloke who'd arrived really early, and he'd been shown around the ground by a Donny steward and given a tour of the dressing rooms! Something you would never be offered for free at a Premier League ground.

Despite us relegating them, credit to the Donny officials, stewards and fans who kept their sense of humour throughout and seemed genuinely pleased for us that we had survived for (at least) another game!
