Bit of a shock, we've only gone and voted to keep the post.

I genuinely thought there was no chance of that.

Excellent news. Anything that keeps those useless Labour councillors in check is fine by me. Thanks Labour for wasting more money on a pointless referendum. Lets hope the Labour councillors take a pay cut to cover the cost (there goes a pig flying past).

I think it's brilliant news and shows how far this town has come in opening its eyes in order to be able to move forward and with the times. I think it keeps the town on the map to take advantage of when ever we finally get out the recession

I actually think it's good news too.

I don't think it's a good thing for Political power being in the hands of one group for too long. It can lead to corruption as the people of Doncaster know. The mayoral system makes it possible for a political outsider who has a passion for the local area to make a difference. I don't mind a bit of personality politics at this level.

Such a pity our current mayor has zero personality

Actually that isn't true, he does have quite a strong personality.

It is a good thing. Our mayors have done lots of positives and I actually like the current mayor he talks a lot of sense. Now let's hope the councillors listen to what the electorate wants and work with him rather than trying to shaft him.

It not the mayor we were voting for its the principle of having a mayor.
Great news.

.... and what of the Tories ? Did you percieve THEY wasted money trying to get further Mayors in Leeds Sheffield Wakefield Bradford etc .....

... after all Cameron said he wanted a Boris in every City - so how do you balance your viewpoints ? Just wondered

Strange that the status quo was upheld ... e.g. those without a Mayor wanted to keep as theyw ere and us with a Mayor also wanted to stay that way

PS As this is poiltics I usually do not respond because of the futility of it all and I will not be adding to this

As long as the people of Doncaster don't elect another fascist I'm not particularly bothered about having or not having an elected mayor

Of course they didn't waste money. If the people of those cities didn't want a mayor then more fool them. If they end up with useless Labour politicians running the show then that's their lookout.

Doncaster Labour politicians wasted money because we had already been asked before if we wanted a mayor and we's said yes. So what do the power crazed Labour party do? They have a referendum again because they didn't like the first result. They lost and should have the dignity to pay for their loss (which of course they won't).
