Only one way it can be settled tbh... A game of pitch and toss!

Ewwww!

Anyway, how about points built up throughout the match for pass accuracy, possession, pass completion etc. with points deducted for cards, fouls and offsides?

Might promote fair play and a bit of respect if nothing else?

Try telling that to my 10y old. lost on pennos in Babworth tournament yesterday. Hit cross bar in extra time then missed his pen! gutted! still was a quiet drive back with him for once :)
Golden goal at least rewards positive play? although after 120min its not goner happen because its "golden".
only one way to sort it out??? fight fight fight!

you'd think it would, but then you get teams like Chelsea who just sit back for an eternity then smash you, hardly what I'd call positive play (don't for a second think I'm criticising them playing to their strengths - just an example)

how about the fouls throughout the season being the decider
promoting fair play all season
obviously the ref standard would have to improve

Normal extra time, then another extra time of the scores are still level, only this time with the 'golden goal' rule coming into play. Let the overpaid pansies have to play longer for their money. More exciting for the fans too.

Failing that, just have the managers fight it out.

Yeah, like they do in rugby (union at least, not sure of league), and have the shootout at the end of the golden goal time if no score (obviously..).

Although I'd love to see Fergie get stuck into Wenger.

How about a drinking contest.  Trestle tables on the half way line.  Flip a coin and the winner chooses the tipple. Teams then proceed to drink until the last man is standing....
