Now is the time to get behind Saunders
« on August 14, 2012, 09:51:08 am by Scooter »
To all the Rovers fans who are critical and/or unsure if Dean is the right manager for us I believe that every single person across God's earth who bleeds DRFC should rally behind the team and in particular Dean. The majority of us do not know what goes off behind the scenes and are happy with that.
Dean appears to be energetic and enthusiastic and despite people referring him to as "soundbite" he genuinely wants DRFC to do well and to be a success. The signings he has made have been top quality particularly for league one and as we have been informed he is putting the hours and mileage in scouring the country for decent players.
We are a team in transition. We will not win every week and sometimes Dean will get his tactics wrong but that is the only way he will learn. Sometimes he will get his tactics perfect but the players will not perform. That's football. He will also inherit the long standing tradition of Rovers doing it the hard way. Why dominate a team and score early goals to help the fans relax and enjoy themselves when the rovers way is to make the fans sweat and chomp their nails off while awaiting admission to coronary care before scraping a late win?
Forget last season, let go (but never forget) former managers, forget Dean's wrexham experience and give the man a genuine chance.
For all the critics I challenge you to give him at least one full season. Judge him after 46 games. We might not win promotion, but stability is a must. He may just show signs that he does know what he is doing and he may guide us back to the championship.
To do that he needs are support - not backbiting and moaning.
We are DRFC - and Dean is our leader. Puff your chests out show the world your viking tattoos and get behind the club.

Read this post then go to a mirror. Take a deep breath and say the following:
I AM DRFC. JOHN RYAN IS MY GOD. THE KEEPMOAT MY CHURCH. DEAN IS MY LEADER. COME ON ROVERS!!
Then do your loudest viking roar and all your doubt and negativity will leave your soul.

Silent majority - would the vsc be interested in a crack team of specialist mental health nurses to treat the relentlessly negative posters on here!

Great post, Scooter.

I was a fervent supporter of Sean O'Driscoll and one of the biggest critics of "the experiment".

It's no use moaning or crowing about the past though and as supporters we all have our part to play in getting behind the team together. That's not to say we can't debate the ins and outs of the tactics and performances post match but we do need to beleive that things are being done for the right reasons with the right goals.

The squad is stating to come together with a collection of players capable of really challenging in this division and it's encouraging to see some youngsters coming through the academy.

It's harder  for some to be positive thinkers than others but to the naturally negative I would plead the same as the opening poster .Lots of club's develop their own fan reputation which become recognised nationally and unfluence how people see the club . Best examples are Leeds .
To be recognised as a family /community club we not only need the Board and Management to lead but we need the fan base to be representative of such values .  The VSC 's charter reflects such values and this high profile site  also needs to.Potential new supporters reading some posts  on here would be put off.

Totally agree with this. Yeah, at times it can be frustrating supporting any club, and clearly we are not aware of just how much work is going on behind the scenes, although SM is now giving an insight and it is all sounding positive. I for one usually try to be optimistic and I'll hold my hand up and admit that a few weeks ago I was also getting frustrated with the limited information coming out of the club, which is only natural.

Now we have cleared some high earners, brought in some very good players, players who appear to have the passion to get stuck in, get us winning, and play as part of a team, willing to scrap for a win, some height... in fact, a lot of what many on here have been asking for some time. The players he's brought in will be able to handle themselves in League 1. Yeah there's going to be bad days, and there's going to be games that you just want to throw yourself down the terrace steps after half an hour... but that's football, you win some, you lose some. I hope we get off to a winning start on Saturday and exorcise the demons of past, if we lose, then hey-ho, that's the way it goes, you literally can't win every game! I just fear that the constantly negative will get on Deanos back if we lose the first couple of games (or maybe even the first!) and that does NOTHING for the club, added pressure is not what we need right now and those who stupidly bleat "Saunders Out" as soon as we start losing, will spread into the naive 'sheep' in the crowd, and it really does nothing for anyone.

We NEED to get behind every member of our club, the suits behind the scene's are doing a VERY good job and I have never know such a positive vibe coming out of the club as we have at the minute. DS has had very limited opportunity to put his stamp on the team, and although his hands are technically tied with regards to limitations, he appears to be doing that, the players brought in appear to be gelling with existing players, hopefully that will help the gelling ON the field and it will only help the situation.

I know everyone's different, as are their opinions. But being constantly critical of everything literally does nothing for anyone. If your frustrated, go for a run, scream at the cat, join in the Bob Diamond debate, have a beer, then do as the OP said, deep breath believe in the club and move on to the next game.

I have been sceptical of Saunders appointment in the past and wasn't sure about some of the tactics, or lack of them last year. Having said that I think his hands were definately tied if not handcuffed. I have been pleasantly suprised by the players he has managed to recruit so far under very difficult circumstances.
It is now upto the fans to get behind the club, get some bodies through the turnstiles, make some noise and not start moaning when we lose a couple of games or in fact win one on penalties, perrish the thought!

I'm impressed by the signings he has made. And his passion for the youth set up.
Still not convinced about his tactical knowledger, but i'm willing to give him a chance now he is building his own squad.

Correct Brian, and we have been trying hard to moderate a little more stringently without wishing to trample over the views of supporters.  Remember, the forum is just provided by the VSC, it isnt the VSC, and the club recognises the distinction.

What we told JR was to ignore the "fringes", the 10% wildly negative and the 10% wildly positive, and the middle 80% are really worth listening to.

Thanks for that Rob, and I am pleased to see that the distinction you point out is indeed well recognised. Despite the indisputable fact that everyone has the right to air their opinions on this board, nevertheless I would hate some of the posts on here to be seen as representative of a majority of supporters.

Good advice on ignoring the wild 10% negative and positive. However sometimes on a bad day on here it can feel like 49% wildly positive, 49% wildly negative and only 2% in between

However I do seem to feel we are entering a new phase, with a bit more pragmatism surfacing, and hopefully with it stability and dare I say it - a new emerging club identity. In that respect thanks are certainly due to the Mods/VSC committee, and the link via Gavin B/Silent Majority

I am right behind Dean and he has done nothing wrong over this summer. Let's all write off last season and make a good go of it now, Saunders managerial reputation will soar to that of someone capable of getting it done in the football league if we do well this season. We are certainly capable of that and I hope we can do it. I'm really gearing up for Saturday now.

Imo SOD is one of the greatest managers we have ever had but that is no reason not to back Saunders. If DS gets us promoted then he will be one of the few managers to get us to the 2nd tier and would therefore be one of our more successful managers.
