They've always been scum if the highest order, but today they have excelled themselves. Look at the front page.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4704738/Brainless-Corrie-star-Helen-Flanagan-poses-with-gun-to-her-headc-as-26-lie-dead-after-US-school-horror-in-Sandy-Hook.html
How many disgusting Sun tactics are rolled into that one story?
1) Using a tragedy to sell papers
2) Whipping up a fake moral outrage to sell papers
3) f***ing about with the emotions of the bereaved (how are the Newtown parents supposed to have heard about some nonentity posting a photo on a Twitter account unless the journalists contacted them to ask them how they felt about it?)
4) They are so disgusted by the photo that they re-print it.
5) Being the FLJs that they are, they base an entire front page story on a Twitter thread.
6) They make sure they get the B-list celeb aspect.
7) And oh aye. They manage to roll it all up with a picture of a fit lass in her skimpies.
Absolute f***ing scum of the highest order. I'd rather stick my head between my legs and luck my arse clean than wipe it on that rag.

Can I amend this from the Sun to the Media in general?
This situation with the Nurse that committed suicide, where our "press" decided it was all the fault of the Australian radio station pranksters....
Surely if our press hadn't have made such a meal of it in the first place, looking for the scapegoats that put the call through, then the Nurse wouldn't have taken her own life.
I'm amazed there's not been more comments about them having blood on their hands, rather than the 2 presenters....

I've said it before, papers like The Sun f**king love it when tragedies like that shooting happen. They rub their hands with glee. Look how many stories they can wring from it. Not only do they get to report on the actual events, they get to post pictures of the killer with taglines like THE FACE OF EVIL, and FACE OF A KILLER (and who can forget the photo of a baby Raoul Moat with the caption "TWO MONTH OLD MOAT CLENCHES HIS FISTS!") and create a bonafide boogeyman, a monster who they can fill endless column inches about. Then they get to drag up completely unrelated shit like this and link it to the shooting for weeks afterwards, and drum up a bit of moral outrage, because God knows covering real stories is too much trouble. It's exploitative and sickening.
You know the worst part? Criminal psychologists explicitly say, every time this happens, the same things: don't exploit the killings. Don't publish dramatic photos of the victims in tears. Don't publish photos of the killer, and glamourise him into some sort of twisted Frankenstein's Monster. But they do. And so, some lonely, disturbed individual, years in the future, decides he wants to go out with a bang, he wants to make people take notice and remember him, and he wants to stick it to the world the easiest way he knows how, and he goes and shoots up a school. And the cycle continues. The Sun and Sky News are perhaps the worst examples, but the media at large thrives on turning these ill people into boogeyman stories, convincing us monsters exist just so they can sell us stories about them for weeks on end. And it never, ever stops. It's really terrifying when you think about it.

I am extremely happy to tell you all that, once a year, I make a point of wiping my arse with that rag. I find it an extremely and profoundly satisfying thing to do.
