Rob Jones and the lap of honour
« on April 19, 2013, 01:12:41 pm by silent majority »
Tomorrow afternoon Rob Jones wants to do a lap of honour with his team to thank all DRFC supporters for the incredible support we've given them this season. Not only that but he does feel that it's been a joint effort all season long and reflects our attitude to the 'just a pub team having a laugh' mentality. If anybody gets what IRWT is about then its this man, our team captain.

Because he is determined to do this tomorrow he has asked that we don't take to the field at full time, but we allow them to leave and then come back. Because of the tight time schedule, with the Belles game taking place after ours, any pitch incursion will mean the lap of honour will be cancelled.

Can I suggest we save it for next week?  ;)

Not sure a pitch invasion at Brentford will go down well with the locals there, after they played Portsmouth.

I know, and I shouldn't be suggesting it but it would probably be more appropriate to celebrate there, depending on the result of course.

It's a shame something so joyous as a pitch invasion has become so political.

Aye, best not to run on the KM pitch. Heaven forbid we might cause thousand of pounds worth of improvement... :D

PLease tell me what is the point of running onto the pitch at any game? What does it actually achieve?

A spontaneous act of celebration Raven, and at the Southend play off home leg it was just as much to applaud the visiting supporters.  Never seen that before and doubt I ever will again.

Absolutely nowt. All it does is piss off those who abide by the rules, risks what is supposed to happen
(lap of honour, presentation etc...) not happen and risks getting the club into trouble.

I can understand when it's as a protest like at BV back in the day, but it's not necessary in celebration when the club specifically ask you to not come onto the pitch.

Not very spontaneous when there seem to be plenty on here who have been talking about it for weeks!

I'm not going on, not without a full Risk-Assessment anyway.

Can't be doing with a broken ankle just before Brentford!!!  :scarf:

My recommendation is the announcer requests this once. When he keeps saying don't invade the pitch over and over again it incites folk to do just the opposite!

I've made that point to the club Baz, although I believe some of it is at the insistence of the Police.

All Rob has to say is anyone coming on the pitch will have me to deal with,it would put me off doing owt wrong.
