Sorry...........
« on May 04, 2013, 01:59:06 pm by rover-n-out »
.......I know this has been mooted on here in past threads, but can anyone tell me just how much the Rovers stand to gain financially from our promotion. League 1 prize money, Football League payments, etc. what's the final figure? Many Thanks.

The number of local derby's is a great financial bonus too.

Thanks Jimmydee, I was thinking more in terms of what we are paid for gaining promotion and winning the league.

Barnsley chairman said a loss of £3million from league and a drop in away fans from 40k to 17k if they got relegated

Taken from Port Vale site:

Interestingly if you get promoted from League 1 you have to pay the league 25 grand so they can afford parachute payments for relegated clubs. Promotion from the Championship would cost you 165k!

I don't actually believe this since there are no parachute payments when dropping from Championship to League 1. If there is any Prize Money for winning League 1 it will be dwarfed by TV moneys for playing in the Championship next season.

I'm struggling to find the rationale for rewarding failure .. surely clubs could put clauses into player contracts that discontinue the huge Premiership wages  in case of relegation ,instead of these irrational parachute payments.T

Dutch,

This is the regulation;

(d) The two Clubs finishing in the highest positions in League 1 and the winner of the League 1 Play-Off Competition shall no later than the 31st May in that Season pay to The League the sum of £21,333 by way of contribution towards the cost of The League making Parachute Payments available to the Clubs relegated from League 1 in any one Season in accordance with Article 75.

Unbelievable!

I'm genuinely shocked by that

Wow

Many thanks SM - much appreciated

Didn't realise there were any parachute payments for falling out of League 1 (I thought there might be for falling put of League 2 into the Conference)

As far as Rovers are concerned this amount is clearly dwarfed by extra TV money next season, but it does remind me of the tale I seem to have told many times on here when I bet money on a horse, it won, and I lost money (it was an odds-on favourite and it won in a dead heat - all winnings halved, thus my return was less than my initial stake)

Seem to remember when Sheff Utd got relegated; they mentioned that their TV money dropped from £3m to £750k, but the £3m is now nearer £6m for next season?

Presumably Wolves pick up their massive Sky parachute still next season (£12m)?
So their TV money is worth the TV money of 16 teams in League 1.

Having said that; Kevin Doyle (£50k p/wk), Jamie O'Hara (£35k p/wk) and Roger Johnson (£30k p/wk) will absorb a lot of that TV money quickly!!!
