Over the course of last season we serialised Ray Jest's account of Rovers 1973-74 season in the fanzine. Unfortunately, rushed print deadlines for the last two 'zines of the season meant we sadly omitted the conclusion of Ray's piece.
To address this Ray's full account of 1973-74 has now been uploaded to the
popular STAND website where it can be read in full
.

A great read and memories. Gutted that my school wouldn't allow us off to go to the Liverpool match, whereas kids from Ridgewood were. Grrrr.
Supported Rovers from 1967 courtesy of my dad but it was the following season, 74-75, that I was allowed to go and watch with my mates. By then Curran and Elwiss had gone and Rob Mcluckie had been forced out with a knee injury (later to work with him at Harvesters!).
Just shows you though, poor attendances, poor league form at the bottom of the pyramid yet we could still give Liverpool a good game.
Was it 74-75 when we lost to Spurs 7-2?
Seem to recall we were always a handful going forward but shocking in defence. In the Kitchen, O'Callaghan, Stan Anderson era we briefly threatened promotion but fell away after Easter. Once Kitchen and O'Callaghan left we resorted to type and struggled again for a couple of seasons until Billy Bremner arrived and totally revitalised the club.

That was my first season going with my Dad as a six year old. Exciting stuff for a nipper.

Remember it well.
Liverpool gamed was played on a weekday afternoon due to power cuts and not being able to use the floodlights. 23000 there I think.
We've come along way since then!
