I'd bet diamonds that the number 10 shirt will have a run out this year, in a Kevin Keegan style 'I'd love it' if it were to be our talisman in it!

You know what, when he doesn't come back it'll prove to all the clap trappers that football is just about cash. I'm not thinking good or bad either way like but all of you who reckon footballers actually care about their club are deluded. Those days are gone. You might as well be supporting formula one, basketball, or that fake wrestling. Football is no longer about fans - which is why that in rovers thingy will never be more than a pat on the head for fans at rovers while the odd "director" or two at the vsc get goosebumps while they are fed titbits from the boardroom. Sad but true.

I'd agree in the vast majority of occasions. With Billy though I do believe he has a genuine feeling of the club being his home from the way he was looked after through a difficult time in his life.

Lets not forget, 4 months before we sold him we turned down nearly 2 million quid more than we eventually got for him and that was because he didn't want to leave because in his personal life it wasn't the right time.

We made no efforts to shove him out the door but the club knew at the time due to his contract that he'd never be worth anything like that figure again.

I do believe the gratitude he has towards JR in particular from that time would mean he'd come back here like a shot if we could make the deal half attractive to him.

Time will tell, at the time of the massive offer I was one of the people that would have tried to move him on, because we couldn't afford to turn that sort of money down, he was never going to be worth more and because it Dr-stabilised the club a bit being so centred on one fantastic player.

Would I love to have him back here?? You bet I would!!!

We put a loan bid in for him so I'm sure we'd have tried to buy him had the investment happened.

In your opinion! JR wanted the deal to go through, that's good enough for me.

Either way, it's a sad indictment of football that Billy isn't pulling on a pair of boots tomorrow... Either for us or anyone, for that matter.

Rigoglioso would give him a run.

Players like that make you realise how far we've come!

Isn't it just vacant cos Browny has 9 and Paynter prefers 20, he does on Football Manager anyway.

Dead right Lipsy.  Read his tweet last night wishing all his footie mates and fans good luck today.  Sad!
