According to twitter its 0-0 at half time and 3 trialists started from the Rovers. Making assumptions from the way the starting XI was listed it would appear they are 2 defenders (poss FB & CB) and a midfielder:

Maxted, Trialist, Wakefield, Trialist, Binns, Harper, Middleton, Trialist, Syers, Bennett, Paynter

Just came away after about 60 minutes, Mansfield dominated for the majority of the first half. The trialist centre half was awful, the right back steady. Not a clue who they where but told the CB is French.

The right winger is Nimely from Man City, from what I've just seen did nothing to impress apart from a couple of step overs and fancy flicks. Wouldn't get into our starting 11.

Good goal from Payne when he came on.

Lost 2-1 apparently a little disjointed but still very good for the development players, trialists and first teamers needing a game. I think this development squad was a fantastic idea.

I like us to have a reserve/development squad where there are competitive fixtures.  Saying that, it's game time that is important rather than the result.

A report on the game from the Mansfield end- impressively quick. Some of us will remember the reporter by another name...

Wearing a shirt and tie. He said gate was 189. Kyle missed goal with a one on one at the end.

Disjointed performance from the reserve side. Defence steady without being outstanding.
Trialist right back not good enough, Wakefield steady game needs to play games at this level to improve. Trialist CB best player for Rovers hard to judge on one game, Binns steady game at LB. Harper poor even at this level, Middleton needs to improve a lot. But they all need games. Bennett poor first half second half slightly better, he really needs to step his game up to get back in first team.
Trialist good touches and pace but not ready for first team on that display, if it was the player mentioned he as only scored 1 goal in 17 games. Sanchez Paine was the best player in an attacking role. Peterson and Bennett should have scored one to one chances, goalkeeper no where in both chances.

Triallist CB was Bira Dembele, though he normally a defensive midfielder.

On this showing, none of the three first teamers on show, Paynter, Syers or Bennett looked as though they would be ready to step straight into the first team.  That said, Paynter and Syers only played half a game, but Bennett played the full game and was very disappointing, given the level of the opposition (league 2 reserve side).

Mansfield were the better side through most of the game and deserved to win.  In addition to the goal which was well taken by Sanchez Payne, Rovers had several half chances and missed three gilt edged chances.  The first fell to Paynter who badly miscontrolled a pinpoint cross when only ten yards out, with only the keeper to beat.  The second fell to Peterson who hit the bar from a rebounded shot saved by the keeper when it was easier to score.  Bennett missed the final chance in the last minute when his pace got him away from the defence in a central position, but when faced with a one on one with the keeper, he dragged his shot weakly past the post.

Overall, a good workout for the squad players, but on this showing, we don't appear to have a lot of strength in depth.

What you have to remember is they won't of been putting 100% in. Reserve games are just a run out for some players.

Surely if you don't put the effort into reserve games the chances of a first team call up aren't good

I suppose it depends what they've been told by the management, maybe to go out and have a runaround for fitness purposes, or to put in a performance to justify first team selection?

Just watched it on Player, only 10 mins so can't get the full picture. I thought Sanchez Payne looked solid and had a nice fluidity about him (no, not meaning he was wet).

Bira Dembele the CB made a couple of glaring errors. Bennett I thought made some effort and despite missing that one on one, he did make the chance from nothing, and did some good tracking back with one excellent tackle in our box.

Agree with the "disjointed" summary. Some good movement going forward and some poor defending, esp from set pieces - just not bothering to pick up people at times.
