Another Cotterill Rant
« on October 02, 2013, 12:24:27 pm by rtid88 »
What does this bloke bring to the team in the Championship, he can't take on man, can't cross a ball from open play, can't take a decent free kick and can't take a decent corner!! How he is getting in the team over Duffy I don't understand!

Every corner that was taken after Cotterill was taken off almost produced a chance every time, whether it be from Keegan or Copps, IMO Cotts is just a waste of space and I really struggle to see how he is getting in the team!

Cant believe some people on here. Ok he might not be up to it at this level but we wouldnt even be at this level without his goals assists from last season so give the guy some credit

We know he can do the things we want him to do though. It's up to PD to get in to his head and manage him right.

I disagree. He was moderate from open play last year for me, very inconsistent. Step up in level is too much for him. It's not his fault, just everyone has their level.

He was the only one who looked to supply crosses, get the ball, the lad worked back hard, how on earth you guys can criticise him is beyond me, and for Duffy, well my opinion is he did a lot of running around but nothing came from him in the end, at least you get crosses from cott! Rant about the original rant OVER!

If you look back, you end up going backwards. No place for sentiment in football. Gary Woods helped us win the league, should we bring him back and replace Turnbull?

He had a good first half against Blackpool and I have seen nothing that resembles much of a performance from him since then. Duffy offered far more last night and should start on Saturday.

Agree with you. Im amazed someone thought he was our biggest threat last night, he looked like a lost child at times.

I refer my Hon Friend to my earlier comment:

Glad someone else thought Cotterill had a 'mare. I appreciate everything he did last season when he was superb- both in terms of goals and assists- but this year he's not been at the races for me. I don't know if he's not comfortable with the system we play or he's finding the step up a bit much (opposing full backs of better quality) but he looks a shadow of last year's player. Also his set piece delivery has gone to pot and it was noticeable that we only looked dangerous from corners after he went off.

One thing Dickov might try is putting him on the left and encouraging him (like Saunders did) to cut inside and shoot or play balls across with his right foot. Coppinger could be used on the right to stretch play wide, which he does well. Cotterill would also have a natural left-footer (Husband) who could overlap outside him, so we wouldn't need to become narrow on the left.

As it is, I can see Duffy starting on Sat and Cotterill benched.

One thing I'll add is that, yes, he put in some crosses but sadly they never beat the first defender. Pretty much the same with corners. However, I don't think we should bin him- just think about using him differently (i.e. on the left. cutting in).

Sorry to say it but he has actually replaced Gary Woods ! We managed to lose to the top of  the league with a penalty and a spozzy second goal so we always have to have somebody to blame. No Woods  so cotts fault. I will agree last night he had a below par performance but for crying out loud ger a grip and ger off the lads back

I rarely post but thought I'd say its amazing how there has to be a scapegoat every season. Last night I thought he performed better than jones, Kumalo, quin and Wellens who between couldn't pass or get going. Quinn's passing was awfull and the loose passing by Wellens was out of character.

All in all the rovers fans who applauded his substitution were a joke. The whole team was poor....Machedas miss for 3 yards cost us as much as poor play. Get off his back.

P.s he frustrates me alot and personally I think Cotterill needs to work a lot harder to be in the starting 11 but last was a small improvement compared to recent performances.

your response reads as though people are blaming him for losing, which nobody is.

Even though I didn't think he'd played very well I was applauding his efforts when he came off. I think most of the people around me were as well.

I always applaud the players coming off. I then applaud the player coming on, I think that most fans do the same.
I even clapped Burnley's last sub as he came on. ;0)

Main threat????? How?? What did he do??? :saywhat:

Unlike the first half of the Wednesday game, we had width in this game with Cotts & Copps starting, playing 4-4-2 with them two as the wide men is our best formation and tactic in my opinion.

Fair enough, he rarely beat the first man and when he did it was defended well and sent for a corner, but who had the most chances to whip a decent ball in from open play?

I'm sorry, but it's a fundamental of wing play that your crosses need to get past the first defender. As I've said, I would stick with Cotterill but play him on the left and encourage him to come inside on his right foot. He might even start scoring goals again!

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying, statistically Cotterill was our main threat in the first half. Maybe that's how poorly we played Tuesday night.

Like people were saying when we signed him hes a confidence player and we need to build him backup. He seems to have lost it since DS left. I think if he gets a goal we'll see an improvement in his performances.

Apologies, difficult walking a dog and typing.

The reference to the applauding Cotterill off were to the sarcastic cheers and claps in south stand which reminded me of similar events including Bennett, Woods and anyone else who becomes the main scapegoat.

It bores me listening to people slate a player who doesn't deserve it at that point in time.
