Think it must have been more than 10k Filo - the official capacity of BV used to be 45k - an average of more than 11k per side. With the town end being much smaller I think popside must have been theoretically nearer to 15k capacity. Would not have wanted to be in there in those sorts of numbers though

I can remember sitting in the cowsheds for a game with Huddersfield on a Friday night game in the early 80's. Thick fog descended just at the Rossington End of the ground and you had to wait for a cheer from the popside to know if anything was happening.

From memory it was Cameron's Strong Arm ale in Pop side bar, also served in those hefty tankard glasses that got banned in the old supporters club bar.
When I first went to BV it was 45p for a kid, and I think an additional 10p for the Cowshed "upgrade". But the foot stamping teenage mayhem was worth it.

The noise was made by fans stamping their feet on the wooden floor.

I was only young and could not make much nosie stamping the floorboards,I soon learnt that I could make the most noise by kicking the wooden boards used to make the long benches we sat on,Kick the bench in front kick the bench underneath Im sat on and vise versa.God it gave me a buzz,so exciting for a young one to experience.

When I was at Belle Vue as a kid, I thought that the cowshed was above a train line and the sudden noise of the stamping was from a train passing underneath.  I was convinced for quite some time.

The gantry was built after chairman Frank Wilson bought a film/cine camera.
 He gave this to the club so that matches could be filmed and then analysed and. shown to the players.
This was  in the 1968/69 season if I remember right.
There would have been some right gems among those films, 4 3 against Chester and 7 0 against Aldershot to name just two.
We would also have had a lot of footage of King Alick as well: talk about lost opportunities.

You're right 1879,I was also in the cowshed for that game,think we won 1-0,scored at the Rosso end but knew nothing about it until people started cheering at the far end of the pop & main stand terraces,also remember a Friday night game against Bolton Wanderers played in similer conditions.Does anyone one else also remember in the middle of the cowshed they built some wooden steps so you could go down to the back of the goal with a metal railing fence either side,as kids we all used to run down the steps if the opposition got a penalty to try & put them off,great memorys.
