I've mentioned in this section a few times in the past my Dads exploits. He represents GB in Powerlifting (bench press). He has previously won titles regionally (Yorkshire and North East England), and Nationally (England) Open (across all ages) and Commonwealth (for his age group representing England) titles. Yesterday over in Bulgaria he won the European Masters title for his age(Individuals who are either 60+ or turn 60 this year) and weight class (weight limit 105kg). My Dad is 67 years old so most of the people he competes against are younger than him. Only title still to win is World Masters which he is hoping to achieve next year in Newcastle. As I'm sure you can Imagine I am chuffed to bits for my Dad who has placed 2nd in World and 3rd in Europe (I know that sounds the wrong way around but it is not) in the past. Despite the age of the competitors a good number of countries have people who compete. Doncaster has a number of International lifters currently not just my Dad from a club called The Doncaster Allrounders. Paul Wray (also Doncaster) finished 4th in 93KG M3 class (the weight division below my Dad). His son Sheridan Wray is also an international but not masters yet as those are 39+ (in year you turn 40)Phil Frost (also from Doncaster has represented England in the last couple of years) Those are the current Doncaster internationals I am aware of. Just reading their website it seems also Scott Bradwell looks as though he has recently had international recognition. Thought a few of you might be interested in my Dads achievement but also the strength of the sport(pun intended) locally. If anyone fancies checking them out here is a link

Dave, congratulations to your Dad once again. That's an impressive achievement! He has done really well and seems to continually out do himself every year. Very nice article about him in the link you posted, and they left his last name off, but that must be his picture on there as well. But at 67 that's certainly a fab achievement and as you say he is now going for the World Masters title. All the best to him in Newcastle!
