After being in charge of the debacle at Charlton referee Lee Collins was involved in another half time abandonment at Portsmouth.

I was working near Reading today (Purley) and we hardly had a drop. Some of my colleagues were in Newbury and said it tipped it down.

We had it torrential tonight for about an hour and a half. I am shocked the Oxford game got through 90 minutes, especially with the lightning. Swindon also had no problems. Very localised.

Yes it was.  The daft thing about that postponement was the way it was handled.  You could see the decision coming after a few minutes of play...

After starting the game in heavy rain, playing the game in heavy rain, suspending the game in heavy rain, restarting in heavy rain. Taking half time to consider restarting in heavy rain , playing in heavy rain, then to stop play because of heavy rain.
One man makes a "safety" call on behalf of 20-30 other men.
A bit of rain at a football match aint going to kill no-one.

And besides, we're going to go back there and bloody lose, knowing our luck!

He must have been delighted when Pompey equalised just before half time. It's much easier to call off a game when the scores are level than when one team has a convincing lead.

Oh I don't agree with the timing of the decision, it should have been made earlier, but the game was a farce. The right hand side of the pitch was saturated, the ball was getting stuck in the water. The Charlton goal mouth was unplayable which practically gifted us a goal.

Take out the emotion of us being 3-1 up, and it was correct.

And yes, of course we will get beat. Sods law and all that.

As for it being much easier to call off a game when the scores are level - one of the teams could have been 12-0 up last night, that game wouldn't have gone ahead. It was barely a decision to make.

The abandonment should have happened after the points I highlighted in bold.  The rest was farcical.  After the suspension it was still raining, at least for a while, and the pitch wasn't going to drain.  Many parts of the pitch were unplayable, and yes, potentially dangerous.  Perhaps the game should have been postponed before kick off?

And yes, I was there, and remarked that I could see the game abandoned, as early as 10 minutes in.

And don't forget Jenny, that we were also down to 10 men before halftime, and the score would have been much closer had Turnbull not made at least 3 exceptional saves.  OK Browny fluffed his hat-trick chance, but the game was far from over as far as Charlton were concerned and we could have easily drawn or lost that game.
