Billy Sharp lifted Rovers as a club.

Don't know why he went to Reading when he could have come here if he'd been willing to lower his wage demands. Shame really. Love the bloke to bits.

He has a contract for the rest of the season and another year, therefore if you go out on loan I don't think you lower your wage demands. If we had bought him, which we could not afford, then his wages could have been negotiated.

Southampton wanted the club that loaned him to pay all his wages, therefore only Reading, with their parachute payments, could afford him. He had to go to Reading or not play, which he as not done yet.

Billy Sharp lifted Rovers as a club. Enthusiasm, loveable, a fantastic player and a genuine bloke. Macheda has a point to prove and seemed a very good prospect, if a little raw. Tough one for me because I can see the merits of both. Billy is what, three years older now? Hasn't played a great deal in the past couple of seasons.

I honestly think that the board underestimated Billy's worth to the club, we finally had a real character and a hero that the little 'uns worshiped. For a lot of us it hasn't been the same since.
When the team is on form, it's good knowing that the goals can come from any position, but mostly nowadays you just wonder where the goals are going to come from, a' la Barnsley away.

You only have to remember how the crowd reacted v Crystal Palace when he came as sub following his Dunk injury to see how he lifts the crowd and club.
No one man is bigger than a club or team, but sometimes there's one who can drag it up with him. Jones last year for example. Steve Gerrard for 10 years at Liverpool a more high profile case.
Billy was ours, and if ever possible we should try again to get him back.

Peter Kitchen ,then Colin Cramb, then Billy Sharp, then Paul Heffernan for a striker , the nearest we got to Gerrards influence was some the performances Ian Snodin put in during his first spell with the club. Also i would love to know what some of the under 30 year olds who support Rovers would have made of Colin Douglas ,he would be an even bigger favourite now than back then . For those under 30 just ask your dad,s or uncle,s etc !!!!!!

Aye, Snod's was immense. A class above. Sometimes don't you just yearn for those days on a cold Belle Vue terrace, a couple pf pints and a pie in your belly, with Ian Snodin bossing midfield, mullet and all?

Now I am getting all misty-eyed.

Sharp,no comparison. Billy works a lot harder too from what I've seen. Admittedly, very little of Macheda. Both score goals though and that's what we are missing at the moment.

Can't we be greedy and have both?

Imagine that!

goals aside, it would have to be billy. more importantly would be the massive injection of feel good  - at a time when the club really needs it. it would galvanise the supporters again I feel.

You would think(hope) that anyone upstairs at the rovers may just be thinking the same. it would do thier reputation wonders amongst a currently unsettled fanbase.

Macheda for me, no doubt. No point being misty eyed, Macheda is WORTH a hell of a lot more than Billy will ever be worth!

More likely to get Macheda back imo as Billy has only just got to Reading. He made things happen during his spell here so would love to see him back but I guess finance is the stumbling block if anything, in addition to the club being in a state of flux.
