My heart truly bleeds for them, it really does.

I think you're making that up. You sound like you are no longer a spring chicken but you have to remember you were once young. Life is much much harder for youngsters today. Car insurance is only one area where my generation on the whole couldn't care less.

Whatever happened to collective responsibility? I'd be quite happy for the insurance companies to spread the risk amongst all drivers so we all pay the same regardless of age. It's no good companies just cherry picking the lowest risk drivers just to increase their profits.

Oh I'll have you know I am still very much a young spring chicken, albeit it one that probably goes against all your stereotypes and what you believe in from reading your posts today....

Why should risk be shared? Why should sensible drivers be made to pay more because there are careless idiots on the road? Why should people have to pay more because youngsters think they don't have to comply with the law and drive without insurance?

You talk about collective responsibility but everything you said earlier contradicts that.

Good job you are all not in Ireland. Insurance costs ASTRONOMIC.

It's very sad to see what has happened in Ireland. Once again it is the young that are having to bear the brunt of bad decisions made by useless politicians.

You are Mick and I claim my £5....

I first got insured when I was 19 on a 1.3 Fiesta. Fully comped worked out cheaper but the cheapest I could find was just over 4k. A £950 deposit and £329 a month for 10 months; as the Mrs kept reminding me: that's a bloody mortgage.

The other issue was the car only cost me £700 but my voluntary excess was £1000 so even if I crashed the car I'd still be paying for the repairs and what not. The higher the excess the cheaper the insurance.

Although the first year was a struggle financially it shot down to a nice £1100 for the second year which was less than £100 a month (with Endsleigh). Recently upgraded to a 2.0 307 and its gone up by £20 a month.

The Mrs passed her test last week and got insured as the second driver on her Mom's 1.6 Automatic Focus for an extra £170 a month. But she was getting quotes as the only named driver for less than £2000.

I'd check all the comparison sites (I find comparethemarket.com the better) and don't forget to look at how much the Co-operative insurance would be with the black box. My only issue is them is a lot insist on a curfew (11PM-6-7AM).

Read Mr1Croft's post. The poor lad has been badly ripped off. I'd be quite happy to pay a bit more for my insurance to help the youngsters out. It seems ridiculous to me that I only pay £220 on my brand new 2.0 litre sports car when a 19 year old is paying thousands to be insured on a 1.3 Fiesta worth £700.

I just hope you don't live in a house that is at risk of flooding. By your logic you should be paying thousands if that is the case. I much prefer to subsidise people in this position with a small increase on my premium on my low risk property. Together we stand, divided we fall.

insured for £1900 by ingenie with a black box(no curfew) but at the age of 17 is cheapish by todays standard.

Whatever happened to collective responsibility? I'd be quite happy for the NHS to spread the risk amongst the whole population so we all pay the same regardless of age, health, colour, creed and gender. It's no good private health companies just cherry picking the richest patients just to increase their profits.

Ah, I see you're really a socialist at heart, Mick

Drivelikeagirl.com might have been a good option too.
