Scumthorpe sign another quality player

Gary McSheffrey, on deal until end of the season. Would imagine he's on a decent wedge, seems there going for it this year, and the new investors/owners are giving the manager the funds he needs.

He was released by Chesterfield. Must have gone at the game.

In fairness, there were no major outlays at the start of their season. Tis a bit easier to start spending a tad, when the odds are severely shortened for promotion, when the crowds are up, when there is spending in and around the stadium, when there is a feel good factor about the place.

Does anybody seriously think Scunny would have made these signings at the start of the season, when their status was unclear in the league? A much easier gamble to take now in their position.

I wish we had their knack of finding quality strikers!

It always seems to be strikers that have been rejected at source and they've took a chance on them. Enter Paddy Madden

Have they ever produced one of their own (I'm not counting Keegan)?

So, this transfer window, they've paid £300k (allegedly) for Madden whatever for Syers, brought Paul Hayes in and now McSheffrey as well. Not bad for a League 2 club is it? That does show ambition.
That would be like a Championship club bringing in Billy Sharp, Ishmael Miller, Adam Le Fondre and Ebanks Blake.

Hmmmmmmmm! :-)

What happened to FFP?
If Scunny can do it why can't we FFS?

Quite simply, Scunthorpe money man is prepared to "fund" the club to permitted limit, in Championship this year that's 8 million, don't know what it is in SU league.

Paying players 3/4/5k is a bit different to having to pull up 10/15/20k for good players if it's coming out of one persons pocket.

I am sure FFP for leagues 1 and 2 is all about wage bills being proportional to the club's income.

Yes, you are correct IDM, wages must not exceed 60% of turnover, therefore so long as someone ploughs money into club ( under whatever guise ) it counts as turnover.

Huddersfield don't seem to do too bad either with strikers
