Coppinger
« on February 15, 2014, 11:51:03 pm by Sammy Chung was King »
I started this season thinking James Coppinger was finished,as a player at this level, when we got promoted i was convinced all he was,was an ''Impact Substitute'',i thought his legs had gone, and his body couldn't do what his brain wanted it to,HOW WRONG WAS I?.
As the season has gone on,he's got stronger and stronger, and his performances bely that he is in the ''Veteran stage'',today must be the clincher to him getting a new contract,i only listened today, but he was constantly being mentioned, and the majority of it was influencing us in a good way,the only player in this league who remotely reminds me of ''Copp's'' is Paddy McCourt, when Coppinger is on his game, there is very little any full-back can do about it,over the years we've got used to him flitting in and out of games, one brilliant game, followed by two or three average one's,i don't know what's happened to him,but he seems to be ''Reinvigorated'',there seems to be more consistency to his game,is it because he's a veteran, the experience gathered?,or is it the way Paul Dickov teams play?,i think it's a combination of both, and he deserves another contract, the way he's playing and scoring more goals,he could last another two years at this level.

Got to agree Sammy, Copps has done far more this season than I expected of him - he's truly been vintage and an asset to the team. Another great performance from him today, he always seems to produce in games like this.

Only player worth watching today. The fella never gives up while some others look like they'd rather be somewhere else.

He shows a real pride in wearing the shirt,Brown is another one who does, journeymen are fine for the short term, but fellas like Coppinger and Brown, earn every penny they get,it's not a job to them,it's they're dream, they play like we as fans would if we were lucky enough to be in they're position.

I disagree vd. This bunch of players are not at all a team who don't ever try. They all put a shift in.

For me coppinger wasn't good enough at times and didn't impress.  But he's changed his game and become a different player.  Big difference and he has adapted. That's what the better players do with age.  Very well done of him.

Have we done anything for him regarding a testimonial?

I just don't get how you've come out of that game thinking half of them would rather be somewhere else. Ridiculous. Browny and Bowery ran every inch of the field. Furman does't do much but you can't fault his work rate. Keegan was everywhere but not as good as he usually is. Khmualo and Meite were good. Husband was up and down all game.

On Copps just watched his post match interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTGRPhL6LjI) Whilst watching it thought's of future manager kept striking out at me, think he speaks very well.

Copps was the best player yesterday, but has played even better this season, usually when Wellens is playing, as their link up play is excellent.

Copps is a great example of that dying breed I.e. virtually a one club player and jeez has he enjoyed some great times with us as we have watching him over the years.
I do hope a testimonial is planned for him.......he deserves it. :)

Not to mention that he's still one of the few who regularly walk around the pitch to acknowledge the supporters at the end of the home games

Whilst I think Copps has improved this year and is far more consistent with great link up play with Wellens, I thought that apart from scoring twice which is a rarity that he didn't play a well as he has done.

At times his touch was poor (for him anyway) and don't get me started on Duffys performance. I believe had Copps and Duffy been their usual dangerous self that we'd have won but its not a grumble more of bad timing to have an off day.

Hopefully Newcastle at home or Man City/ Liverpool for testimonial.
