To suggest that we should be doing the same amount (or type) of marketing as one of the richest clubs (if not the richest club) in the world and a club backed by an entire (oil-rich) nation-state is ludicrous.

Where has anyone suggested doing the same amount or type?

Do you think the two Manchester clubs are a fair comparison to us?

Ha, i see you deleted/changed your posts. I just looked and couldn't find anyone suggesting we spend the same as Man U

The comparison with them comes from Wild Rover talking about not needing to promote much/at all simply because people will have heard about us or can find out ourselves... Yet Manchester United, the biggest club in this country and possibly the world, still advertise even though every Tom, Dick & Harry has heard of them.

It is a spurious comparison, you can't justify it. It's an imaginary fairly tale world of 'success' where football fans say things like why aren't we doing X because the most successful club is doing X.

It's tautological. It's like saying we should try and become successful by being successful.

Except, Money.

Hundreds of millions upon billions of the stuff. Money that signs Rooney. Who advertise in China. Who spend money on Man U. Who spend money on marketing. Great system this - it's called capitalism.

I imagine the success of the two clubs is the reason why they play to sell out crowds, not the advertising and marketing.

Jenny did you deliberately miss the point of my post  ?

Doh are you all deliberately missing the point. It's not the comparison but the very fact that they are so successful on the pitch and through the turnstile but still feel it necessary to advertise. God give me strength !
Do Harrods one of the most recognised retailers globally still feel the need to advertise their New Year Sale ......of course they bloody do.
I can see why we've not been getting anywhere :(((

More needs to be done to attract students, most of them support anyone but rovers. Back in sixth form there were more Wednesday fans than rovers fans! This in a doncaster sixth form, unbelievable.

It never failed to amaze me throughout my school years the lack of rovers fans. In a year of 350 pupils around 15 were rovers fans.

Just an offer like buy one get one half prices for students would get a few in, something to do with mates on a weekend.
