2 Chris Beech's?
« on March 21, 2014, 10:48:03 am by TheDonnyPop »
I'v heard of 5 McIndoe's but did we have 2 Chris Beech's?

I can only remember 1...But
Chris Beech
Born in Blackpool, now 39 and Rochdale Assistant Manager. Midfielder played 2 times for us between 2004-2005, joining Carlisle in 2005. Previous teams include Blackpool, Huddersfield, Hartlepool and Rochdale

Canidate Number 2
Chris Beech
Born in Congleton, now 38 with no current records. Left back played 28 times for Rovers between 2002-2004. Former Man City trainee previous clubs include Cardiff and Rotherham. After leaving Rovers in 2004 he joined Carlisle until 2005.

Can someone shed some light on this?

There are two, but only one of them (the ex-Cardiff full-back) played for us.

The midfielder who is Rochdale assistant manager didn't play for us, and I think it's a mistake on his Wiki page to say he made 2 apps for us.

Thanks Pib, i did expect something along these lines, i think the hope of it being the same player with more information got my expectations up.

If he did, it certainly wasn't in 2004-5. The only Chris Beech that played for us at that time was the left-back.

He was part of the heroic patched-up defence which overcame Hull City against the odds at BV in January 2005. One of only a handful of appearances he made that season, as he usually played second fiddle to Tim Ryan.

I can only remember Chris Beech from Rotherham.

But if the other was here and only played 2 games could be easily forgotten

The Rochdale Chris Beech definitely did not play for us. The one who did was the former Cardiff player.

I recall his debut in a 8-0 drubbing at Crewe in the LDV Trophy in December 2002. We didn't play that badly actually, but Crewe had Dean Ashton in those days and he scored a hat-trick. Chris Beech went on to make a total of 35 appearances for us before leaving for Carlisle in 2005.

Only the ex-Cardiff and Rotherham Chris Beech left us for Carlisle. The other (the Rochdale one) played for neither Rovers nor Carlisle.

The Rochdale article is wrong and seems to get its information from the same source as Wikipedia.

Chris Beech (ex- Cardiff and Rotherham) made a total of 35 first team appearances for Rovers, spread over 3 seasons as follows:

2002-03. 20 apps (19 Conference, 1 LDV)
2003-04. 13 apps (11 Football League, 1 League Cup, 1 LDV)
2004-05. 2 apps (2 Football League)

All his appearances were starts. He never came on as a sub or scored a goal.

His final appearance for Rovers came on 22nd January 2005 when he played left-back in a 1-0 win over Hull City in front of 9,633 at Belle Vue. Michael McIndoe scored the only goal of the game. Beech played because Tim Ryan was moved into central defence to replace the suspended Mark Albrighton and Nick Fenton.

In March he joined Carlisle United, then in the Conference, on a Free Transfer, but he made only two appearances for the Cumbrians and was released at the end of the season. He later played for Hucknall Town.

The other Chris Beech left Rochdale at the end of the 2003-04 season and signed for Fleetwood Town, who won the North West Counties Division One title in 2004-05. He is now on Rochdale's coaching staff. He never played for Rovers or Carlisle.

If I remember right, wasn't it Chris Beech's cross that set up Blundell for our first goal back in the league? A little piece of history for him there in an otherwise unremarkable spell.

Looks more like it was Jamie Paterson.

I refer the Hon. Gentleman to my previous answer. The Chris Beech who played for us in 2004-05 was not a new signing but was the one who joined us in 2002-03 from Rotherham. He left in March 2005 and joined Carlisle.

The name Juan Ugarte rings a bell. He certainly never played in a competitive match for us but he may have had a trial.

Juan Ugarte was the Wrexham striker who always scored in threes and fours. I think he scored about 18 goals for Wrexham that season, but most of them came in hat-tricks, or in fours and even fives!

He never played for us though. We were linked with him, along with most of the other strikers in the division at that time (Craig Fagan, Warren Feeney etc.) but they were all poached by other clubs ahead of Rovers.

I remember the Feeney one. Didn't we announce it was a done deal only for him to sign for Luton?

Feeney did well had his time in the spotlight but then seem to plummet through the leagues again

I think DP mouthed off to the press that they had a verbal agreement, but then, yes, it fell through and he opted to join Luton, who were storming the league that year.

Fagan was supposedly lined up too when he was at Colchester, but he ended up going where about a third of all the league's strikers went at that stage - Hull City.

I thought it was down to Ian Snodin being a scout for Luton and also having ties with Rovers that lost us Feeney and also Heikkinen.
