andy,

Its become a big issue in the PL as they traditionally sell out away allocations at most games, and with the relaxation in enforcing the standing regulation its becoming quite common to find solutions.

Interesting to hear on Sky last week during the Everton v Man Utd game an announcement asking the Man Utd fans to sit or suffer the consequences of reduced allocations. I suppose that's one way of trying to enforce it,but its one that hasn't worked so far!

I'm guessing that the club wouldn't be able to 'advertise' such a thing given that it is against ground regulations.

It would be a step forward though, although you'll still get people claiming that they want to be at the back and can't stand because they are too lazy/fat/unable/whatever and that they have paid for that specific seat so they will use it. There just isn't any compromise with some people who would rather cause issues and have something to moan about.

Some clubs in the PL are Jenny. They're including advice in communication to their fans as to where may be best to sit if that's what they want to do.

Standing in areas that have allocated seating create special problems which needs to be understood.

Standing in itself isn't illegal, but it is against ground regulations. Depending on the stewards approach to it they may want to impose themselves early on and some fans may suffer as a consequence. Leicester's stewards have a reputation for being a little belligerent when it suits.

Standing itself takes up more room than seated spectators, this causes people on the end of rows to spill into the gangways, another definite no-no as far as stewards and safety officers are concerned.

A sell out away end will always cause problems if people don't use their allocated seats. People arriving late in groups of 3 or 4 may not find enough seats together therefore creating issues when they want to sit in their allocated seats.

Hopefully the stewards and safety officer will monitor this properly and if it becomes an issue then I hope they utilise the overspill area in the stadium, that's what it's there for.

Whilst I appreciate everybody's willingness to create the right atmosphere and stand and sing for 90 minutes it's not much fun when the stewards are keen to impose themselves. Bolton was a classic example from earlier this season. Be aware, if that's want they want to do then there's very little that can be done.

Regards to the overspill area, would this be something that could be organised so it happens? To accommodate those who wish to stand at the back at etc and also accommodate those who wish to be seated?

No.

It's meant to be an emergency only area. It's usually implemented when large groups of fans arrive very late and can't be accommodated adequately.

If you think about Hillsborough and the crush that occurred just before kick off, then that's the reason they exist. All clubs have them.

You might not have noticed but we used ours at the Keepmoat in the first few minutes of the Huddersfield game. Latecomers were directed to the overspill area because most were standing and taking up all the room. It's rare to see it though. I asked for the overspill area at Burnley to be opened up a couple of seasons ago because latecomers were having to queue on the staircases. They refused, but within 15 minutes of the kick off they had to do so because of numbers. I suspect Saturday may be similar.

Which group of people was that remark directed towards Jenny?

The people that abide by the rules and sit in their allocated seat?

Or the people that think it's OK to ride roughshod over everyone else, ignore the ground rules and refuse to compromise, often ending in confrontation?

Those who buy tickets in an area they know will house people who like to stand (if advised by the club). If it's known that that area is a standing area, in my opinion, those that buy tickets there wanting to sit are selfish individuals who thrive on negativity and confrontation.

What if you don't know the stadium layout, take the first tickets the ticket office gives you and end up in a " standing area" in an all seater stadium, do you still consider that person selfish?

If we had an option, when buying away tickets, to specify which section we wanted - or if that was indeed offered (I have never witnessed it) then you may have a point.  Most times you just get what you are given.  The only realistic  is unreserved seating (or partial unreserved areas in some blocks) and let common sense prevail.

I don't go to too many away games theses days but don't usually have a problem. I prefer to sit but having restricted bend on my left knee I can get cramped. I therefore always try for an aisle seat allowing me extra room. Fair enough it isn't usually in the middle of the goal but I can put up with that.
At two games this season, Blackburn and Leeds the stewards were very accommodating and we had great views.
I'm happy to give and take, I want to sit so keep to the side of those that want to stand although I can stand for 90 minutes at a push.
A little common sense and awareness of others preferences is needed by all fans.  :scarf:

Friggin hell!!!
I can't believe this thread has 100 replies and most of them nothing to do with the OP!
So, how many tickets are actually left? Anyone know? Does anyone even care now? :-)

mfd, it is a logical flow to move from away ticket sales to where folks will sit at that game.

Someone above posted there were 290 left, I guess that is less now..

Now I've managed to get the day off work Saturday, so 4 of us going.

As for us, we will viewing the game doing a handstand, whilst having an assortment of fruit and root vegetables shoved down our underpants.

I'll be embarrassed if we don't all do this.

Excellent post that should be read by both the 'standers' and 'sitters'. I have found though over the years an increasing belligerence of some of our supporters to accommodate, disregard and show empathy to the needs of our next generation of supporters.
This thread demonstrates that admirably ffs accommodate each other wherever possible......it's not hard is it !!
This is an extremely important match and bickering amongst our supporters long before the KO shows that we don't accommodate and fight amongst ourselves.

Older supporters please cast your minds back 10,20, 30 or even 40+ years and remember for a moment what you were like as a 'fresh faced' teenager and smile when asked to move slightly instead of offering someone out.
Stop being belligerent , allow the vocal support to do what the name suggests and even perchance have that old flush of youth and bloody join in for once.

This is a ridiculous thread and an embarrassment in itself.,....support the fecking team bring your balloons etc.and celebrate win or lose. RTWD

I am going in a party of 3.  Now I don't mind really if I end up having to stand (grew up with standing at footy) but what I won't like is if we arrive and others have taken our seats and our group is split.  Before anyone reacts, yes, we will try to get there in good time, but you cannot predict traffic, parking etc.

We will probably park at the big shopping centre and walk the mile or so to the ground...

Totally agree with the splitting Up of a group there's nowt worse.
On that point, when we played Reading some cock and his mates decided to sit in my seat (not his mates on my seat I hasten to add).
I just moved rather than have a load of aggro in a half empty stadium. Some of our supporters really do need to grow out of this 'I've being going longer than you' mentality to justify an attack on these younger lads. Without them you would have 90% of our support sat on their hands and with zipped gobs both home and away.

They for some of their rougher edges represent the future of our club.....,.try to encourage the well behaved ones and by all means clip the odd daft one round the lug oyl. It happened to you and I didn't it ?  ;)     :rtid:
