Standing in areas that have allocated seating create special problems which needs to be understood.Standing in itself isn't illegal, but it is against ground regulations. Depending on the stewards approach to it they may want to impose themselves early on and some fans may suffer as a consequence. Leicester's stewards have a reputation for being a little belligerent when it suits.Standing itself takes up more room than seated spectators, this causes people on the end of rows to spill into the gangways, another definite no-no as far as stewards and safety officers are concerned.A sell out away end will always cause problems if people don't use their allocated seats. People arriving late in groups of 3 or 4 may not find enough seats together therefore creating issues when they want to sit in their allocated seats.Hopefully the stewards and safety officer will monitor this properly and if it becomes an issue then I hope they utilise the overspill area in the stadium, that's what it's there for. Whilst I appreciate everybody's willingness to create the right atmosphere and stand and sing for 90 minutes it's not much fun when the stewards are keen to impose themselves. Bolton was a classic example from earlier this season. Be aware, if that's want they want to do then there's very little that can be done.
I'm guessing that the club wouldn't be able to 'advertise' such a thing given that it is against ground regulations. It would be a step forward though, although you'll still get people claiming that they want to be at the back and can't stand because they are too lazy/fat/unable/whatever and that they have paid for that specific seat so they will use it. There just isn't any compromise with some people who would rather cause issues and have something to moan about.
Those who buy tickets in an area they know will house people who like to stand (if advised by the club). If it's known that that area is a standing area, in my opinion, those that buy tickets there wanting to sit are selfish individuals who thrive on negativity and confrontation.
Now I've managed to get the day off work Saturday, so 4 of us going. As for us, we will viewing the game doing a handstand, whilst having an assortment of fruit and root vegetables shoved down our underpants.I'll be embarrassed if we don't all do this.
I am going in a party of 3. Now I don't mind really if I end up having to stand (grew up with standing at footy) but what I won't like is if we arrive and others have taken our seats and our group is split. Before anyone reacts, yes, we will try to get there in good time, but you cannot predict traffic, parking etc.We will probably park at the big shopping centre and walk the mile or so to the ground...
Even hardened standees complain if they have to stand behind me! They ain't seeing nothing!!
Bah, Cussy has just spoilt my fancy dress costume.Seeing as my starfish is doing sit ups, I'm going as piles.
I don't go to too many away games theses days but don't usually have a problem. I prefer to sit but having restricted bend on my left knee I can get cramped. I therefore always try for an aisle seat allowing me extra room. Fair enough it isn't usually in the middle of the goal but I can put up with that.At two games this season, Blackburn and Leeds the stewards were very accommodating and we had great views.I'm happy to give and take, I want to sit so keep to the side of those that want to stand although I can stand for 90 minutes at a push.A little common sense and awareness of others preferences is needed by all fans.
