I've been reading some of the comments about Furman. Apparently he had a very good game indeed and one fan claims he should sack his agent because he should be playing in the Premier League and not League 1!

I've always thought there was a decent player in there trying to get out and I can't help wondering whether he is stifled by the way we play him.

By the way, that was his eighth cap won while a Rovers player. SA have four more qualifiers to play and if they reach the ACON finals in January there is a good chance that Furman will pass Len Graham's club record for international caps.

Is it simply a case of our team formation and style not suiting his approach?

Funnily enough, the SA coach seems to be a fan of 4-4-2.

Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba has named a strong starting line-up for today’s (Wednesday) Orange CAF AFCON qualifier against African champions Nigeria at Cape Town Stadium (Kick off 20h00).

Captain Senzo Meyiwa retains his position in goals while the back four consists of Thulane Hlatshwayo, Thabo Matlaba, Eric Mathoho and Anele Ngcongca.

The midfield is anchored by Dean Furman and Andile Jali with Oupa Manyisa and Sibusiso Vilakazi completing the quartet.

Mandla Masango and Bongane Ndulula complete the starting 11 upfront.

I think it is just that Furman and Keegan don't go well together. The old Gerrard/ Lampard syndrome.

Let's not get carried away by the comments, he no where near a championship player so premiership is an ocean to far. The guy works. Hard but his passing is poor, his reading of the game is not very good.

....is your opinion, I simply ask if different formations suit different players?

I thought Furman defined our season when he first signed although since then he has struggled, it could be the system as he seems much more effective in a more advanced role

But he 'anchored' their midfield and was brilliant. Maybe he just doesn't fit with Keegan as someone said above. Id have him and Wellens and De Val over any formation including Keegan anyway.

Hes a different player for SA to the one for us. When he played in the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers he anchored in a 3 man midfield with a box to box player and an attacking player either side, lately he's been playing next to Jali in a 2 man midfield who's a defensive kind of midfielder aswell, that's worked well when they've been playing away but they'll probably need something different at home.
