In the DFP...

Quote:

"Nathan is the penalty taker, we know that, but we nearly took him off at half time because he’d been struggling a bit. We wanted to get him out there and running around a bit more but he didn’t feel quite right.

“If Nathan had felt comfortable taking it, he would have grabbed the ball and taken it.”

Jesus christ if you are not fit enough to strike a ball at goal from 12 yards then you shouldn't be on the pitch.

We see at every world cup etc players who are knackered after 120 mins play taking spot kicks in the shoot outs.

With Tyson, if at 80% fit, I can see him staying on because he will cause trouble for defenders and subsequently drag them away from other players.  I would have thought Tyson being the penalty taker would have been reason enough to leave him on.  It was a poor game with 0-0 all over it, so if Tyson is there at least if we get a penalty chances are he scores.

I cannot understand leaving him on then not taking that penalty.  OK he may have missed too, but you can forgive that as he has been the regular taker so far this season.

Didn't we learn after the Fulham game?

I agree IDM. Rovers can't keep squandering these great chances.

“If Nathan had felt comfortable taking it, he would have grabbed the ball and taken it.”

He looked to me as though he wanted the ball but Forrester had already grabbed it and wasn't letting go.

On the other hand, if Tyson wasn't fit then he should have come off, giving us the opportunity to get another body into midfield and allow RW to influence the game more.

I really do despair at times!

I think PD is trying to defend both Nathan and Harry in this report - but whilst understandable, even I think that is PR bluff.

After the penalty was missed and the ball had gone out of play Dickov was having a heated discussion with Wellens where it looked pretty obvious that he'd asked why Forrester had taken the kick... which Wellens just shrugged at (can't blame him, he's not the Captain!)

You don't have to wear an armband to take responsibility on a football pitch. There should be 11 captains on the pitch. The captain just tosses the coin.

In that respect Forrester did take responsibility.

To be fair to him it wasn't a bad pen. He struck it well enough, probably a good height for the keeper and he guessed the right way. It was a good save too.

It's just one of those things. I think we're only having the inquest because of our position in the league and recent results.

No we're having the inquest because the prime penalty taker didn't take it. Tyson may well have missed too.

I suspect Dickov is fuming about this but trying to put a united front out in public..It's obvious that we are pretty leaderless in that team.Coppinger isn't captain material and neither is Wellens either..I don't care what anybody says that was unacceptable for a professional team..Like what has been said,if he isn't fit enough to stroke a dead ball from the penalty spot he shouldn't be on the pitch in the first place...

I agree, but can we have that on the pitch too?

The inquest is because Tyson took and scored the last penalty he took, twice since then Tyson has been on the pitch and some one else has grabbed the ball took the penalty and failed to score, like others have said, the leadership on the pitch is non existant, I don't think there'd be many complaints if Tyson had took it and missed

Tyson's body language, belting the dug out and disappearing down the tunnel suggested he wasn't happy with it.
