Sports Personality of the Year
« on December 14, 2014, 10:28:55 pm by IC1967 »
What a joke. Rory should have won it. Just because he drives the best car Lewis  wins. My piss is boiling.

I can only put it down to Sky having too much of the golf coverage these days.

Rory should definitely have won it.

Agreed, and Lewis odds on winning it drifted to 5-1 in the end.

For me theres a clue in the word 'sports', so golf, a pastime for old men which must be the most boring thing in the world to watch is at a disadvantage against a fast paced global phenomenon with speed, thrills and glamour. Yes he has the fastest car, but it doesn't drive itself! Its really difficult when we are not  comparing like with like, so the sport wins it for you.

Not me Glyn, was just pointing out the odds on Lewis winning drifted, therefore I thought Rory would win.

Formula One is not a proper sport like golf. You can be easily the best driver, but if you're not driving the best car you've got no chance.

With golf if you are the best player, equipment doesn't come into it. Whether you succeed or fail is largely down to just you and your skill and your nerve.

Rory should have won by a landslide. I really despair of the British public.

He only won because it was recent and fresh in people's minds. I'm no huge golf fan but 2 majors, Ryder cup and world no1???? Had to win.

Sunday night poser. On the question of golf and equipment, do you believe a Bettaware salesman who never leaves his bedroom, or Tiger Woods?

I think IC1967 has a point. Rory's golf clubs aren't more accurate than anybody else's clubs, and are only performance enhancing because they suit his style of play. If he leant them to a fellow golfer there is no reason to believe that their game would improve. Lewis' car on the other hand is better than his opponents, and gives great advantage because it's faster. Now if Lewis was to lend his car out to an opponent.................

... well he technically had the joint best Car and I reckon if he had not had so many woes earlier in the Season he would have seen off Rosberg well before the double points round. Proves nowt I know

Secondly it is supposed to be the Sports PERSONALITY and for me he should probably have won over Rory for that reason. However it has been for as long as I can remember been about the most successful Sportsman so we are no further forward as we are comparing apples and pears !

If there is a prize for an inconclusive thread post then please vote for me NOW !

I gave up watch this years ago, dull and uninteresting now. But for what it's worth and the circumstances behind her performances this past year, i'd have liked to have seen Jo Pavey win it.

I think her achievements in 2014 surpass anything Hamilton or McIllroy did

Hamilton won a two horse race. Rory deserved to win.

There is added significance of Hamilton winning the F1 championship in that it was his second, and a Brit hasn't won two in quite a long while now.

Whether or not motor sport or golf can be considered more of a sport than the other I'm not sure. Motor racing drivers have to be supremely fit to put themselves through the g-forces generated in a race. Golfers are becoming much more athletic but I wouldn't think they would match up to racing drivers. Golf has relatively minimal reliance on the standard of equipment used, although it does make a difference, which is why some clubs are banned.

Not sure really.

If that's your criteria, Jo Pavey should have come ahead of both of them.
