A surprise point?
« on January 10, 2015, 05:19:20 pm by normal rules »
With 12 mins to go I thought that was that.

I was not at BP but it sounds like the sending off changed the game, and the result.

The sending off was a shocking tackle.  Great play by copps. Forrester was very unlucky first half too.

overall not a great performance but good determination to fight back. We need a furman replacement though.

first half we were probably unfortunate to go in 1-0 down.... 2nd half... well we were pretty poor all over, no one stand out player, but the red card changed the game, made them sit to deep letting us push forward finding more space that wasn't there most of the game. id class this as a point stolen more than deserved.

We weren't good today, but neither were they. A draw was a fair result. There was no way they deserved to be 2 up.

A point was the least we deserved today.
We were the best team in the first half and only a shocking mistake by Butler gave them the lead.
We'd had the most of the play and hit the bar from Forrester.

Their 2nd goal was a scrambled affair and I must admit at that point I thought we'd had it.

But full credit to the team for fighting back. Yes, of course you can say the sending off played a part, but as we know all too well a numerical advantage guarantees nothing.

In the end, a moment of magic from Copps gave us the point we deserved, and coming so late after being two down it really felt like a win.

Neil

I'm happy with a point. We spluttered and stuttered today, but still more than matched a mid-table side away. That's a good sign for the rest of the season.

The way we started, I thought we were going to hammer them and I'm still a bit frustrated that we didn't get all three points. But we lost our way, with a couple of poor personal performances from key players. We'll leave the Coppinger discussion behind. I was really disappointed by Wellens until the sending off. Always, always looking for the world-class pass and it never came off. I lost count of how many times our possession broke down from a ridiculous pass from Wellens.

But, like Coppinger, he stepped it up in the final quarter and we got the point.

Good on ya Joe Mills, once a Rover always a Rover.

I must admit, joe was taking a lot of stick from folks sitting around me. "him and his brother are both shite", which I thought was uncalled for, as I thought they were excellent servants of our club.
He did put a ballsy effort for them, albeit a tad undisciplined, but I was wondering why he was playing with such anger against us? Anyhow, glad he was.

Also , good to see our team capitalising on a sending off, as it usually goes against us.

I'm amazed it was 2 2 I can't remember either keeper having a save to make bar the goals

i like the way people have been very diplomatic about butlers howler for first goal the posts would have been so different if obina for instance had made that clanger

Because Butler is a very good player and has done very well so far - hence why I think folks appear to be forgiving this one mistake.

Bpool

Their keeper saved a thunderbolt from Keegan (straight at him unfortunately) about 10 mins from the end, and made a routine save from a decent shot from Robinson early doors. He was nowhere near two from Forrester than hit the woodwork.

By the way, I reckon that's now 5 times Forrester's hit the woodwork in 3-4 games.

Their keeper makes a meal of it for our first goal. Definite red for Mills' moment of madness. Lucky there were not more reds after the handbags that followed.

Loved the highlights. Oldham fans well pissed off, the sub-Manc t.wats. Plastic pitch pioneering w**kers.

If fans are able to forgive "one mistake" by a player, then why on earth can we not do the same when the referee drops a faux pas?

Of course refs will make mistakes, but do we know any of them well enough to judge when such a mistake is out of character?

It was a mistake in execution rather than in decision making.  Most players make those mistakes several times in a game, his this time led to a goal.  Nothing to be diplomatic about... and who the hell is 'obina'?

Not quite sure, IDM, why we have to know anything about a referee's character in order to know if he has made a mistake or not.

Out of character in terms of usual performance, not in terms of personality...

Exactly and ref's performances are measured whether its by fans/adjudicators/managers etc etc and you will get a fair idea how particular refs are performing

According to Liam Hoden on Twitter:

Get the impression a deal is close for Abdul Razak to #drfc. Dickov was speaking about work permits and international clearance yesterday.

Dickov on Razak: "If we can manage to do, it will be a real coup for us because he's a top, top player." #drfc
