While Inter-Railing in 1986, we rolled into Munich station at 05:00 one morning after a Night Train from Bologna. Had stood in a corridor all night. Got off absolutely radged. Hadn't eaten for 12 hours. Hadn't washed or changed our scuddies. Torn T-shirts only held together by the B.O.

We found a chuck wagon, grabbed a coffee and a bratwurst and plonked down in a corner to try to rejoin the Human Race.

20 mins later, a train from Vienna pulled up and off strolled Steve Strange and his entourage. Perfectly coiffeured. Perfect make-up. Black leather strides, shirt and jacket.

His music was mostly cack (apart from that French lass in Fade to Grey whose voice still gives me a lazy lob on). But that was a very impressive entrance.
