Christ.  I have my gripes with this forum at times, but if it's so god-awful in every aspect, AND you have little interest in the football club it concerns, why spend so much time posting here?

You're not a paying punter, you openly said you avoid paying the other week.

Sometimes I pay. It generally depends on who's playing, where, and who I know there.

Anyway, I'll leave you all to squawk and battle it out amongst yourselves - and decide the answer to the question in the title of this thread.

The thread was started by a potential WUM - if you read the other thread he/she refers to..

And you have picked up on some of the extremes of posting that goes on here, much if not all of which gets shot down by the rest of the posters with a bit of common sense and maturity, plus a bit of banter.

If you don't like it, why are you here?  That's not a pop at you by the way, your presence is as welcome as mine or as anyone else's, just a question...

I think that you are underestimating Rigo's resilience. 🙂

If we were all as friendly and welcoming as you, he'd have been long gone already.

By ass kisser I take it you mean anyone who doesn't think Terry Bramall sacrifices babies to the sun god Ra while embezzling the club and pissing in orphanage beds.

How does challenging someone's opinions on a) other posts and b) the forum in general, translate into being an "ass kisser"

IMHO Rigo and anyone else can post whatever they like, including the OP (WUM or not as the case may be) but would then be open to question and counter opinion.

The fact that sometimes a poster makes an inflammatory or controversial post leading to much disagreement, that doesn't make the users "ass kissers" or whatever.

Statements like that don't help do they?  If you don't agree, say so, and say why.

Do you get that?  Do you understand?

Initial thoughts:
This forum is full of misunderstandings (probably no different to many others)
There are lots of personal rivalries and alliances and prejudices – it would be interesting if we could choose to view posts as anonymous and a few posters might be surprised by the outcome?
Posters may not be open to views which challenge their own, or to ideas which appear a little bit different and may respond by putting negative labels on others like troll or WUM, or by ridiculing such posts or posters  - this type of response probably means  :
I cant be bothered to challenge or question this so in my capacity as self appointed moderator I will condemn it/ the poster
And/or
I don’t understand this, or the posters motivations, so I will jump to conclusions and in my capacity as self appointed moderator I will condemn it/ the poster
And/or
I don’t agree with this so I will wind this guy up by ridiculing him/her or by calling them a WUM or a troll.

For my part I can reflect on my posts and can see that I have taken stuff too personally and in biting back I am just mirroring the judgmental behaviour of others and adding fuel to the fire. Also I am not a moderator so I should not be acting like one eg by starting this thread, or by whinging about the behaviour of others. If I dont like what I read - I know how to close a tab.
Thanks for indulging me and for helping me to get things in perspective.

Yeah just like when you say someone hasn't a clue about football because they had a different opinion on something to you, eh. :silly:

Yes - exactly. Thats what I mean by saying "in biting back I am just mirroring the judgmental behaviour of others"
If it helps I apologise for questioning your knowledge of football - I cant think of a worse insult to a football fan and I am not proud of it. On reflection do you still think it appropriate to use the "silly" emoticon? The only thing I cant take back is the opinion that we have both judged each other unfairly.

This.

When it crosses the line and becomes personal insults, however, that's when it goes too far.

Agreed - there are times when I get angry about some posts but I think twice before posting an insulting response - I try and post what I would be prepared to say in person.
