New ITEN blog post
« on September 21, 2016, 11:38:32 am by RoversAlias »
Hi folks,

I've not been able to write much lately due to moving house and starting back at uni for the year, but I've collected my thoughts on our recent games into a post, link below. I'm keen to hear your thoughts and if you have any feedback don't hesitate to let me know.

Today's post covers that man Copps again, as well as our attacking harmony and the prospect of a Rovers side free of all these injuries.

As ever a good read, but some questionable suggestions for the "Attacking Harmony" bit. I'm sure some statto out there can provide some hard evidence, but from memory Blundell signed in March/April of our conference promotion season and was played more from the bench for that month or two, and then Barnes moved on only a month or two into the football league season because of the Blundell-Leo partnership. Blundell & Leo is probably the best strike pairing we had in the last 15+ years, although Guy and Heffernan always seemed to have a decent understanding.

Glad you mentioned the Guy and Heffs partnership. Nice to be reminded of it, especially those who fail to appreciate how good they were together.

Guy was underrated for my money

My examples there weren't terrific I must admit. I nearly plumped for Sharp and Hayter but didn't want to mention anyone twice. For some reason I got muddled with Barnes in our Division 3 season...easy to get him and Leo mixed up though ey.

What about big Brendan and Kitch? They were a pretty decent duo. Before your time, probably.

If there's no limit to how far we go back in time no strike pairing compares to King Alick and Laurie Sheffield.

I rated Guy in the early days of his time with us.. Worked hard and had lots of pace.. Unfortunately he didn't develop as I hoped he would - could have made himself stronger and sharper in front of goal.. Shame really that he is more remembered as a bit of a lightweight who would go down at the merest hint of a contact..

Alick & Laurie and Kitch & Bren for my money were both a fair bit better as a front two than anything we've had since we got back in the league - especially Alick and Laurie Sheffied of course.
