Marquis - WUM award
« on September 17, 2016, 08:47:52 pm by jonnydog »
Proper class act and slowly turning in to one of my favourite players.

Loved watching him in the second half clearly winding up the Newport defence, every time he'd get one to lash out or commit to a foul, he'd look over to our bench and give a smug grin. It's about time we had a WUM of a player and it clearly frustrated the hell out of the opposition towards the end.

Add that to the fact he puts in 100% graft all shift, and has the skill, the ability, and the eye for goal, means we may well be currently watching one of our best forwards in the making... In my opinion of course.

It was class by him when he took that heavy tackle (fairly). The crowd started booing and he walked right up the players earole and bellowed booooo....booooo.

Agreed.
I love his effort and ability.
After he was booked the Newport players seemed to be trying to "do" him and he was lucky to avoid a bad injury when one player went in recklessly on the touch line but thankfully missed him.
I also liked the sarcastic way he went to shake hands with the ref when he was subbed.

Never mind wum, he was my motm by a country mile. Cops got it based on his milestone only, but my, what a demonstration of forward hold up play and all out graft and determination. Wish we had another few like him.

I thought he had managed to clone himself today. Seemed like there were two of them on the pitch today....here, there and everywhere. He's relentless in his workrate. Would love to see his match stats.

In the midst of those few crazy minutes with Marquis in the thick of it, he did almost stamp on an opponents ankle - could have easily got a second yellow if not a straight red.

First one was definitely a penalty IMHO.

He got properly cleaned out for the pen. The ref must have been blind at that moment,  which was a shame because I thought he got most other decisions correct.

Don't know if anyone else saw this but first game of the season away at Accy when their keeper was having a mare we got a corner. He went right up to the keeper's face and just kept saying 'don't drop it. You better not drop it'. Knew he was going to be a fan favourite since then.

I remember this. He strikes me as someone you'd want to have a beer with...  a character. Good teams have characters.

Looked a Pen from where I sit (and why would JM dive when clean through - he aint Lewis Guy is he)

What made it worse the Ref only 30 seconds later then gave THEM a Free kick on the East Side half way line for what looked an identical challenge / tackle.

... but back to OP. I too agree with what Jonnydog says there.

This kid is talented and a real grafter chasing what look like hopeless causes BUT I have seen him do several interceptions already (all in home games) JUST because he is anticipating where the ball is going to go

He will make plenty of goals and he will score plenty. I will enjoy watching him ... and I agree emotionally #26 was the MOTM but on a normal day Marquis was THE man

Listened to Dee dah radio on the way home (before the wendies kick off) and the summariser said both marquis incidents were penalties and couldn't believe the refs decision for the second one, where he got a yellow card. At least we got the result despite a sh*t ref!

The first was a nailed on penalty. The second you could argue was a tangle of legs, but it certainly wasn't a dive.

Still can't believe there is no appeal procedure against yellow cards
Marquis is the sort of player you hate having in opposition team but love in your own

Agree with all the plaudits here for Marquis.  I too thought it was a trip although from the east stand I didn't get a clear view.  What did for the penalty shout was the olympic way he wend down.  If the ref was unsighted for the foul, he would have judged it by the way Marquis went to ground.  That aside, I thought the ref was the best I've seen in ages.

Wasn't in a position to see if it was a pen or not, but looked at the ref & he put the whistle to his mouth then took it away again

Both were pens although he made a meal of the second but the west stand limo was less than useless. He's our new Paul Barnes and seriously becoming my favourite player

I noticed that too.
The ref put the whistle to his lips and looked to the assistant for some help.

Penalty appeals aside, what a player this lad is at this level, he never stops, something we have massively lacked up front since Brown left, & something Williams is now consistently putting into his game too. What really impresses me is the way he can turn us from being under pressure to being on the front foot with his first touch & determination. Great signing Fergy.

Marquis is set to be a legend, he works his nuts off, and the way he gets right into the oppositions faces with his wind up routines is a joy to behold, oh, and he will get his share of goals too. Cant wait for the next performance!!

He's our new Dougie ..and this latest performance has ensured his popularity .I attended the after match MOM presentation to Copps and he made a point of saying how influential Marquis was to the team.
