New KM Record

Dunno if it has been mentioned on here, but Saturdays win has seen us go unbeaten in 10 league games, a first for the KM stadium.

We've always gone on about making the KMS a fortress, and it has never happened (in fact it was quite the opposite for years!). Well done all, and let's keep this home run of form going, cos I noticed there seemed to be more in attendance on Saturday!

You're right about attendances creeping up (see below). Maybe push up over 6,000 in the new year if we keep our home form up?  :scarf:

Crawley 4,327
Cambridge 4,768 (Tue)
Yeovil 4,686
Newport 5,254
Carlisle 4,773 (Tue)
Barnet 4,861
Colchester 5,007

I wouldnt say they're creeping up.

They seem to go up and down so there is nothing consistent.

We will average around 5000 if we continue to do well

Minimal away support in most of those games.

The upward trend is there (just) I think. The Newport match had a few extra I reckon as it was Copps' first home match after his 500th game.

The only 10 unbeaten in the League is a new record.

However between the Bradford City game in March 2015 and the same fixture in October 2015 we went 11 games unbeaten in all competitions (9 in league and 2 cup games). What's more surprising is it was the last 12 home fixtures under Dickov before his dismissal.

Nothing negative about it. It's fact. We're playing at the lowest level we've ever played at at the Keepmoat.
This league is absolute garbage with a few exceptions, ourselves included. If we don't get promoted from this division with the players we've brought in, it would be a disgrace. We would hold our own in League one I think, but the defence would need sorting for us to do well. We give away far too many chances which would be punished by better players

No it isn't garbage, it is the 4th division therefore in the main the standard is lower than we have been used to for the last decade..

But yes, we should be seriously challenging - as we already are..

It really is garbage.

The quality is far worse than the last time we were at this level.

English football is screwed because this is what people say everytime we go down. Apparently League One was weaker 5 years ago and now League Two is weaker.

Nothing to do with us making them look bad.

There are no teams in this division who are as good as Hull, Huddersfield, Swansea and we were that season.

I think it's more a case of the quality of the top end. The year we won the League 1 Playoffs, Swansea, Forest, us and Leeds were all great teams. There might have been some real shit too, but we remember the good.

The standard of football and officiating for that matter is beyond our control.  You can only beat what is put in front of you.

I can't recall thinking or really caring about the standard of football in 2006/07 by comparison to our previous stint prior to relegation to the Conference.

Irrespective of the standard, I'm enjoying it. Depends on your perspective in life. Glass half empty or half full!

I don't think anyone would disagree with that Barry. The point I'm making is this: we're unbeaten at the Keepmaot for x games this season because of the standard of opposition we are playing. We're a good team 'at this level' We know what we were like last season at a higher level: in general, bloody awful!
I fully expect us to be promoted this season, and automatically. And I fully expect us to have to strentghen next season, especially defensively, if we want to have a successful season.

Personally, I think Mike is bang on saying that this division is nowhere near as strong as it was the last time we occupied it, but I can understand others may see that differently.

Hey ho. See you soon
Barry

I wonder if the perception of this division being weaker when we were last on it, is due to the fact that hull, Huddersfield and Swansea are now much higher up the leagues?  Is it any worse when the likes of Torquay, Rochdale, Burton get promoted?

It is what it is, it is the 4th division.. for many years we were nowhere near good enough to get out of it either - so was it a crap league then?

Could it seem weaker now because we have dropped down into the 4th tier for the first time since we rose up into it from the conference? Some of the teams we now consider to be small fry were considered to be big fish back then.

I think that's an excellent point BB. The perspective is massively different so this could have a big part to play. Also, it's easy to say that those aforementioned teams had players like Jon Stead, Liam Lawrence and all those great players that made Swansea so good in L1 now we know they've gone on to bigger and better things themselves, but the same thing could and probably will happen to a number of players currently at this level.

Well the number of  British players in the prem is alot lower now than it was back then. So the way I look at it is the standard of British player's in the prem back then are now playing in the championship and surly it will domino down the league's.  But because we're at our lowest level for a while its just looking a poor league.

Home supporters numbers in each of those:

Crawley 4,194
Cambridge 4,375 (Tue)
Yeovil 4,519
Newport 4,988
Carlisle 4,334 (Tue)
Barnet 4,663
Colchester 4,782

The upward trend is there (just) I think. The Newport match had a few extra I reckon as it was Copps' first home match after his 500th game.

Black Bank factor yet again in evidence for Newport. A few laughed when it was suggested a better atmosphere and planned displays can attract people into the ground but I believe it does.

That and a team that is winning, "fans" will always come to watch when we are winning but will quickly desert when we are not. We all saw how quickly some deserted last season.
