Kongolo/Beestin
« on January 28, 2018, 04:50:42 pm by Fur Calf »
Watching the game yesterday and based on the respective performances of both Kongolo and Beestin I came to the conclusion that Beestin plays like he came from Man City's Academy and Kongolo plays like he came from Tadcaster United.  Beestin is far and away more effective than Kongolo.

They were carrying out completely different roles though, it’s easier for Beestin as he has very little responsibility positionally. He’s just there to create and be a threat in and around the box. Kongolo has a much more difficult job. Beestin looks a real prospect though admittedly.

To be fair to Kongolo, I think he was asked to play a more central role yesterday, which he wasn't suited to. He's still only a kid but his inconsistency is very frustrating.

I don't believe it is easier for Beestin  to look more effective than Kongola because of the role he plays. Also, based on the coaching Kongolo has had at Man City and games played at this level versus the very limited coaching Beestin will have had and the few games he has played at this level. Beestin is an effective team player with positive mindset, unfortunately Kongolo isn't.

The lack of basic pace was evident once or twice yesterday with Beestin, probably the only part of his game that will stop him going a lot higher,
if he carries on as he is.
Coppinger was the player who they crowded out for space yesterday, he was always picked up by them when we had the ball, with their central defenders dropping back to try and make Marquis and Beestin play in front of them.

You don't necessarily need to be quick playing the #10 role, which I think Beestin is best suited for. He has excellent close control and can drive forward with the ball, should stand him in good stead if he keeps doing that and continues to get a bit more physically strong.
