Let's talk about the Wimbledon game
« on November 14, 2018, 11:35:14 am by selby »
One of the few teams that had a worse set of league results than ourselves in October, and have lost their last six league fixtures on the bounce, and having lived through generations of us ending other teams bad runs of form and getting them back to winning ways, it is a slight worry to me.
The run of defeats has resulted in their manager Neal Ardley and first team coach Simon Bassey leaving the club, so again we have a new person in charge of his first game eager to impress, and a team also eager under a new mentor, something else that in the past has conspired to work against us as far as results are concerned.
We enter this fixture still in the FA cup, and hopefully the Chekatrade Trophy which is played tonight.
We are not  in the best of form ourselves, not scoring goals in attack despite having chances, and seemingly unable to defend set pieces, and in both areas not having much luck with the run of the ball, which at times has looked like a magnet  to a defender on the line or an attacker six yards of our goal line.
Crawford and Anderson should be given a Chance at Notts County to show what they are about in midfield, where we have been poor with retaining the ball with Blair particularly sloppy in my opinion. Wilks seems to be the player under pressure to keep his place up front, and I would like to see Blair played further forward at Notts County as I think it would be his best position with his pace. Although I would still stick with Wilks and Marquis up front.
Enough from me, What do you think?
Can we stop Wimbledon getting back on track?
Can we get back on track ourselves and get some consistency back into our play?
Lots to discuss, please have your say.
   What changes would you make?

For me it's time Blair was played as part of a front 3. He has pace, he can beat a man and as he has proved this season can score goals. As Selby said Wilks is the player under pressure as, IMHO, he has not produced the goods for the last few games. As for Crawford he didn't do his chances any good with his performance at Coventry, he wss 1 of many that day who didn't do themselves justice.Amos must be pushing Andrew for the left back position  As for the keeper it's a toss up between the 2, the worrying stat is the number of shots on target that result in goals ie Fleetwood, Notts County 4 on target 4 goals in each case

According to GM on Radio Sheffield Wright, Taylor, Longbottom and possibly Amos are injured for tomorrow.
Tommy Rowe is back in the squad.
In FP Shane Blaney is now regarded as ready for the first team and will be use as the third centre half.

Again from Radio Sheffield answered the question regarding conceding goals from set pieces been working hard on the problem and come with different solutions. Also said with 5 out of the next 7 games at home including cup game this will be a new start.

Hope so Wolfie, my team change would be Crawford for Blair.

Mine is Rowe for Blair don’t see the point in letting him get cold hamstring sitting on bench. Therefore start him and substitute when required

Steve if he is match fit  I could go along with that, but only if he is 100% fit.

Not a game where we played, or was it allowed to play well, but in the end a win and  a result that evens the games such as Sunderland, which we got nothing out of when we did play well.
A big part in how we played was the performance of one of the slackest referees I have seen for ages, allowing a physical assault on Herbie Kane in the first four minutes( 5 fouls mostly late and going for the standing foot). It is time some of the officials realised they have the future of a very good player in their hands, and started to protect him and others from dangerous play that could result in serious injury that could be career defining.
Wimbledon realised in those opening minutes that they could get away with cynical fouls and disrupting play and carried on accordingly.
Crawford played well and scored a great goal, And Anderson grew into the game, with Whiteman and Kane prompting play. For once Coppinger, and Marquis both had poor games especially by their own standards, but we were the better team after half time without hitting any heights, a good three points keeps us on the edge of the top six, and hopefully we can get some confidence back, win Tuesday and go to Barnsley in better form.

I agree with your summary selby.
Nice to see that Anderson gets some praise too for his part today,he has had some stick recently from some of our posters.
I said after fifteen minutes that I would be surprised if Kane was still on the pitch at the and of the game.
He is clearly being targeted by our opponents now.

We were far from being at our best today but were good enough to find a way to win.
Good to see a Rowe back.
I said that he could be just the player to fashion something that could win the game for us and hey presto, he did just that.
