Much as it is my home town, Doncaster is hardly better.!!

Yep, if anything its two bald men fighting over a comb.

Doncaster is the best place in South Yorkshire and has a lot more going for it, thats just a fact, Sheffield is just an overgrown mess

Can't agree that Donny is better than Sheffield tbh.

Depends what you're looking for.

Rotherham town centre is grim but in my experience it's a better run town than Donny in many other aspects. Barnsley town centre seems to have more going on than Rotherham, but in my opinion Donny is lagging behind them all in terms of decent prospects for young people/graduates in the town.

If I was picking somewhere for a day/night out in South Yorkshire it would be Sheffield without hesitation.

Doncaster Races.
Arndale shopping centre (as most stores)
Yorkshire wildlife park.
Town centre as enough pubs to get pissed twice if you have half in each.
Doncaster dome.
The lakeside.
Candy corner.
Railway station on the main line and a Airport.

It’s a run down sh!t hole with some right scummy b’astards living there, especially near the market area of the town centre, but apart from a decent football team it’s got everything you could wish for in a town that’s been left to rot by a government that knows it’ll never get the vote of its people.

Doncaster is a brilliant place to live in my opinion better than most areas in South Yorkshire

Interesting one this. You can as a youngster be very successful being from Doncaster.  However can you do it in Doncaster? Its certainly tougher.  Ive yet to work in Doncaster, indeed I've only ever had one interview here.  In modern times we don't often have to live where we work but I would love to at some point.

As a place to live though I'm glad I moved back. There is a lot going on if you want there to be.

I lived and worked in Barnsley for 8 years. It hasn't got half as much going for it as doncaster, and there is nothing to get excited about in the town centre, in terms of shopping or entertainment. The nights out are class though, and never experienced 1 bit of trouble, unlike every friday on Silver Street.

Funny, I've never actually seen any trouble first hand on Silver Street... not exactly mass bar brawl capital of the world, is it?

In 90s you only had a few choices on Silver Street - Biscuit Billy’s, Ritzy, Gallery and the old man pub at bottom. Looks like Tenerife down there these days. Loads of bars and neon.

Worked for Chronicle and lived in Grimethorpe. We managed to escape 3 years ago though
