Player contracts
« on June 22, 2019, 09:30:13 am by redarmy82 »
Very rarely do we hand out longer than a year or two years, which means every summer we have the same predicament and are left scratching our arses when it comes to trying to get players renewed. This summer being a prime example.

Maybe our current approach of how contracts are given and renewed isn't working.

But you have to be careful when you give out longer than 2 year contracts because you can find yourself stuck with players you don't want. Look at when we gave contracts to Evina, Middleton and Mandeville. I would like to see us act quicker with players who are approaching the end of their contracts though.

And/or structure them so we don't have multiples dropping out of contract at once.

Simplistically, I think doing what we did with Marquis works - give him a two year deal when we sign him, then extend it with a fresh two years the following summer if he's proven good enough, or indeed late in that first season. Just don't let it get down to 3-6 months with half the squad as we often do.
