Lunacy. So he is arguing for supporters clubs, funded by the Treasury to gain a 51 percent stake of their respective clubs.

For man city that is around 1.3 billion, in fact it's almost as high for chelsea, arsenal and spurs. For man Utd it's almost 2 billion.

So that's six major clubs into 51 percent ownership for the bargain price of just over 7 billion.

On South Yorkshire this tax year the govt is spending less than a quarter of a billion on policing.

The UK military budget is around 35 billion. God knows what that money could do for the NHS, education, elderly care, child services, tax cuts for the working class (raise the threshold for higher rate of tax AND the lower rate),

Absolute bonkers policy. I pray Labour never ever govern this country again. The left purport that the right wing doesnt care about the needy in society but would have us spend these vast sums to make ourselves have the supposed moral high ground over other countries' club ownership structure and to remove them from oligarchs and Arab shieks.

Not sure if you posted this in support of it or aghast at it but a simple numbers check shows this is would be absolute madness.

You could have around a six percent increase in the NHS budget using just the money required for those six clubs I listed.

Honestly if Labour ever control the Treasury again we are going to be f*cked for the next hundred years financially.

Mad idea but it makes me laugh when people say what x amount of money could do for the NHS, did anyone actually believe that bus when it said the savings on not paying money into the EU could be spent on the NHS, get a grip! any extra money from anywhere usually goes on funding tax cuts for the rich and multinationals. Two different issues. Money being squirreled away is one thing, blatantly wasting it on socialist mega-projects is another.

Tax cuts for the "rich" narrative is short sighted. According to the current tax rules I am a "high earner", I pay the higher tax rate, recieve zero assistance (including loss of child benefit)... But let me tell you I live a far from rich man's lifestyle.
