Virus protection advice pls
« on December 24, 2019, 09:42:18 am by Donnywolf »
Annually about now I renew my Mcafee Total protection software. I get the thing from Argos and this year it was £9.99

Annually about now I get in a tangle because it takes me ages to get the new one to load and the old one is always saying " renew in 4 days" or like today "renew in 3 days"
Annually - especially today after 6 attempts I think how good are Avast AVG (?) and any other free Virus checkers there may be out there ?
If people are running them without problems I would consider swapping especially if they keep themselves up to date
Cheers DW

I use Avast for free, although it asks me to pay a subscription for full protection occasionally which I haven't. I've had no problems so far.

If you're running windows 10 I don't think you'd need one DW the built in protection is as good as anything

Added: provided you have all the updates installed which are automatic unless you have deliberately blocked them.

Update

Found that first 6 attempts to Download McAfee and its updating process "thought" what I was installing was a 3 device update

However I thought (correctly) that I had bought just a 1 device update. On attempt 7 I tried entering the 25 digit code and instantly it said - Installing 1 device update and did it without a hitch. P.S. It also made me invoke Auto Renewal so whether the 2 car connected I dont know BUT in a months time I will turn it off again as same product would cost me £49.99

Still baffled as to how it "changed its mind" after 6 times of trying but at least I have solved it and would look for a freebie in 11 months time (if spared as Wogan used to say)

I use Malwarebytes which is also free - and gives you free upgrades every couple of months.

I have had no problems at all but then again I don't play games or download that much.

I have Malwarebytes as well but only use it a check now and again to root out "bad stuff"

Didnt know I could be proactive with it without paying

Unless you're downloading from dodgy sites and opening emails with attachments from unknown senders virus protection on win 10 with it's firewall is enough.

Yes thanks again

Now I have got my problem sorted (still no idea how) I have McAfee to warn me of anything dodgy / dodgy sites and Windows 10 in place too

I dont even open attachments from institutions I know (Bank Statements for instance) preferring to go to their Site and look at them there

Then I still have Malwarebytes which I run as often as I feel necessary

Hi Padge - no just Laptop

Ive got sorted now - for at least a year - because I got the McAfee to work.

I should really have bought 3 years cover at one go then I wouldnt get the problem back until then

No it doesn't, DW.  Perfectly suited to BB don't you think?
