Coventry City
« on January 12, 2020, 09:04:34 am by Chris Black come back »
Until 29 December they had not won a single away game in League One this season (drawn 7, lost 2) but have won last two away on bounce (4-1 at Wycombe Wanderers and 4-1 at Tranmere Rovers). They have gone to Portsmouth, Oxford, Peterborough and Sunderland and drawn, scoring in every game (including 3 each away at Portsmouth and Oxford). Tough side.

They play Bristol Rovers on the FA cup on Tuesday which may give us an advantage, also Oxford are at home to Ipswich in the league, a draw would be great for us too.

Get to the bye line and cross low and hard, chances are their keeper will make a mess of it

This probably already got mentioned when the draw was made, but speaking of fa cup, the winner is home to Birmingham in the next round. So we could end up with a situation where Birmingham are away in their own stadium

I wonder whether that would be a first?

And could also have a replay in the same ground, with the fans changing ends and players changing dressing rooms!

It would be interesting to see how they would do the ticket allocations for the first game seeing as how Coventry wouldnt normally be able to make it a sell out with their usual numbers of away tickets made available.

I think someone like Dutch Uncle might know Hound, but Charlton shared grounds with one or two London clubs in the 90s, Selhurst Park being one of them.

They could be contenders.

Yeah they did, but were they drawn together in a cup game when the “home” club had to use the away dressing room and their fans go in the away end.

I could be wrong IDM, but I can't remember Fulham ever playing home games anywhere but Craven Cottage.

They played at Loftus Road for a couple of seasons about 15 years ago whilst CC was being redeveloped.

Yes, but it would be just the same if the two ground sharing clubs met each other in a league game, which is why I mentioned Charlton. It's possible them and Palace were in the same division when they ground shared.

It's far from a first in this country as others above have mentioned...

Charlton Athletic played at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park from 1985 until the end of 1992 and were in the same division as Palace for three of those seasons. Wimbledon will have 'hosted' Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park too, having played there from 1992 until 2003.

Fulham moved to Loftus Road for two seasons between 2002 and 2004 whilst work was done on Craven Cottage, but didn't face their landlords during that time. Similarly Brighton played at Gillingham's Priestfield from 1997 until 1999, but the two weren't in the same division.

Others include Manchester United playing at Manchester City's Maine Road between 1945 and 1949 after WWII bomb damage to Old Trafford, and Bristol Rovers playing at Bath City's Twerton Park from 1986 until they moved to the Memorial Ground in 1996, and though Bath were non-league the two were drawn together in the FA Cup in this time.

Of course it's much more common on the continent - think the Milan clubs in the San Siro - and also in non-league, particularly in London where most grounds seem to be home to at least two clubs.

No worries, I’m sure there’s more too..

I known Wimbledon and Charlton shared Selhurst Park, but not sure if that was ever at the same time - 3 clubs using the ground at once would be too much.?

Edit - doesn’t look like that would have happened, thanks Viva..

Chester played at Macclesfield for a while

Coventry at Northampton..

In Scotland Inverness CT played home games at Aberdeen when they were first promoted to the SPL before they built some new stands at their own ground.. chances are they would have played Aberdeen both as the home and away side in that period, at Pittodrie.
