Interesting that the move leading to the goal started with what some of our fans call fannying around at the back.!

Taylor made a good impact when he came on, worked hard & caused em plenty of problems going forward.

Yes, but ultimately it was a long ball to the half way line from Dieng which really started the attack.

Agree with all that Taylor gave us a much needed spark in that second half, but for me I just didn't understand our tactics, why sit off a team that were struggling to create anything anyway. We made them look 10 x better than they were and even when we did get the ball we had no energy to counter attack as everyone was tired from tracking back and shuffling side to side across the pitch.

You may not have noticed that by playing the ball to Anderson, MKD players pressed forward, allowing Dieng to pick out Taylor with the long pass (not just a long ball by the keeper) and bypassed six opponents.
It was far from being just a long ball.

interesting that a punt from dieng to the half way line isnt playing it out from the back... it's just an alternative to a traditional goal.kick.

Adam, it wasn’t a punt out from the back.
If Beckham had played that pass it would have been called a superb ball out from the back.

The move goes

Deing short pass to
Anderson short pass back to
Deing - long pass to
Taylor heads back to
Haliday through ball down line back to
Taylor who beats two MK Dons defenders to the ball and puts a perfect weighted pass to
Ramsey who smashes it passed the keeper

Front to back in 7 moves great team goal that really only involved 5 players

Halliday seems to always be involved in our (successful) attacking play. What a gem he’s turning out to be.

The run from Ramsey starts pretty much along side Brad great to see us get in some good places hopefully with okenabirhie back on Saturday will help us convert some of those chances

fair point, and I for one have previously praised dieng for his pin point kicking ability.  That's what's all the more frustrating, we have a keeper who can start an attack with bullet point accuracy, down the line. But more often than not, after passing it hurriedly along the backline, anderson punts it anywhere to safety.... when senny had all the time in the world to find a red shirt..

Yes, but ultimately it was a long ball to the half way line from Dieng which really started the attack.

But that is EXACTLY the point of playing into it from the back. The tactic is to draw the opposition press on to create space behind them where our players can exploit it to launch attacks. Playing the short ball to Anderwon did that, so Dieng played a targeted pass to halfway and Halliday used the space he had to send a lovely ball down the line for Taylor.

That is what we play it out from the keeper for. Too many of our fans seemingly do not understand this at games and grumble that it invites pressure and we "resort" to long balls, but it isn't that way at all.

The goal was a perfect example of it working but in the first half it should’ve cost us when dieng played it straight to their striker

Fannying about at back, gerrit it forward, love those sayings, but, the ball of the whole game was from Halliday in the lead up to the goal. Now that was perfection.

Ditto

When I saw it in real time I had (as you do) milliseconds to think "damn that could seriously have been a brilliant ball" - then suddenly JT (good initials btw) had the ball and delivered a killer cross

My mate had a swelled knee so when I had stopped leaping up and down I said I never thought Tayls would get that and my mate agreed.

We talked about it later and came to the same conclusion - the ball looked near perfect BUT in fact he made it perfect

When I saw the higlights this morning even though I knew he got there I still thought he wouldnt get there if you know what I mean

Big praise for the pass and for the making good of the pass.

There was also an occasion a couple of minutes before HT when we played out from back and within half a dozen passes Ennis headed wide from a left side cross, lovely bit of footy.
Halliday's pass was excellent, I'm sure there was another one just as good in the 2nd half as well, can't quite remember what it lead to, probably Tayls again

That was nice football. Whiteman had a glance over his shoulder as the ball was squared to him,saw Amos on the overlap and was able to lay it off first time straight into his path. Then that cross from Amos had me wetting me kecks.

0:43 in the video in the OP.

That really was a quality goal in all respects.
Superb ball from Halliday but how did Taylor get to that?!
Frightening burst of pace and real determination from Tayls.

We've seen two astonishing turns of pace from Rovers players in the last couple of matches.

The one from Taylor on Saturday, and, possibly even more impressive, the one from Cole last week that led to the non-penalty.

I hadn't seen that from Cole before. Because of the way we play, the centre forward is usually playing with his back to goal, trying to hold the ball up and bring the supporting players into the game. I'm not sure Cole is well cut out for that, but that break showed what he might be able to do bursting through a high defensive line.

I was taken aback by that burst of pace from Cole. I didn't know he had that.

Some good saves by Dieng but another mistake by Dieng thinking he was a footballer

Some very good chances missed

Took the goal well but not convinced that the through pass was not that good and only recovered by pace

The stats seem to say it was a quite even game

Hopefully it will continue digging results out of tight games

Come on you mighty reds let’s keep it up. I’ve kept the playoffs weekend free for a trip to Wembley

Come on a Phil, you are hard to please aren’t you?

The through ball by Halliday was superbly played, he did amazingly well to even see the opportunity never mind be able to play it.

As for Dieng, he IS a good footballer.

He did a similar burst of speed v MK Dons as well

The ball from Halliday was sublime. Obviously the pace was key but he'd have never tried that pass if it wasn't for Taylor's pace. He's read the situation perfectly and played a superb pass.
