« on March 12, 2020, 06:13:28 pm by phil old leake »
I have Just had to go to Tesco in Bangor to save the elderly in Laws.

It’s like soviet Russia   Unbelievable the amount of people queuing and the abandoned trolleys.

People just stock piling everything

It’s unbelievable. Queue was huge.

Please tell me this will calm down

There seem to be pockets of panic buying. The supermarkets near me seem well stocked apart from certain items, sanitiser, gloves, bog roll, pasta is sold out except for more expensive brands, tinned soup is getting low.

The thing is, I was reading supermarket deliveries are getting behind and in some areas you will be waiting a couple of weeks before they can get to you.

It's only sense to be stocked up for at the very least a couple of weeks of food, in case you need to quarantine. Given you can't rely on delivery.

The government needs to bring in rationing, and quickly. It's the only way to stop this mad panic buying.

And this was one of the reasons that I got really pissed off and vented on the CVirus thread.
People even stock piling dog food.
Totally f**kin selfish.

IT is pathetic. Most people if housebound can rely on relatives or neighbors to get essentials to them.

Yeah but you have to fatten the dog up, you know, just in case.

I've just been to Tesco in Bentley and it was horrific. They had no toilet paper at all. Reluctantly, I went to the checkout and asked if they had any and they said every roll had gone. How bloody embarrassing it was walking back to the bogs with my pants around my ankles.

There is plenty of stock in the system if folk are just sensible. Deliveries are coming in more frequently but getting the stock on shelves is more of an issue and that's before staff sickness. Oh and if you're planning on relying on home deliveries think again. Buy what you need, when you need it. If you can't get out ask family or friends to collect up essentials.

Because folks are stockpiling ahead of any  lockdown.  It’s one of those things folks can’t do without.

Bread eaters will stock on bread. Milk drinkers will stock on milk. Whisky drinkers will stock on whisky. Arsewipes will stock on arsewipes.

My work is in retail and the pure selfishness of Ill look after myself is beyond belief.
I just brushed it off and thought you selfish diks but im now in a situation where I cant find a pack of loo roll anywhere and Im running low.
As soon as shelves are filled they are emptied its pathetic and retailers need to make it 1 pack per person not 3,who needs 3 x 12 loo rolls ffs!!!!

Izal it is

Makes you wonder about how the UK is going to ramp up food production as was suggested to cover brexit shortfalls when we can't manufacture extra bog rolls  :)

We can though and we are making huge amount of toilet rolls in this country.  The bigger concern should be fresh food coming from.abroad.

What amazes me is we have a run on something that is actually manufactured in the UK

It doesn’t amaze me.  Much of our society as a whole follows headlines like sheep and assume a “me first” mentality.

Then ordinary folks who only may think about buying a little extra as a precaution find they can’t even get their regular stuff.

Luv the Aussie newspaper that printed eight blank pages as a bog roll freebie for readers

I'll tell you how weird these times are.

Last night I laughed at a joke by Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis on the radio.

I know!

They said that the Bank of England was planning to print money to support the economy. But they could do something much more valuable if they left the paper unprinted, put some perforations in it and wrapped it round little cardboard cylinders.
