I think that comes across as sour grapes belton. Wigan got penalised and I have no sympathy if they broke the rules designed to stop football going bankrupt. The problem if any as a lack of consistency by the EFL. Had Wednesday been punished now as well, Barnsley would have finished even higher. Good luck is balanced by bad luck and looking at Barnsley's last three matches you wouldn't have given them a prayer. Fans can only play the hand dealt them and if Rovers had scraped through in similar circumstances I would have felt sorry for the fans suffering relegation but could feel no guilt on an EFL decision being implemented.

I don’t deny sour grapes. I said exactly that in an earlier post.
Doesn’t mean I’m wrong, though.

It's all about opinions belton.
I sympathise to an extent with the Wigan fans but I am also happy for the Barnsley fans on their escape.
The thing that annoys me is that if the Wigan owner has deliberately gone into administration then it drives a coach and horses through EFL rules and regulations. I don't suppose he would be bothered with a further points deduction next season either.

I don't really get some of the posts in this thread. Wigan haven't had 12 points deducted for breaking any rules, they got taken over by someone who immediately pulled all funding and put the team into administration, likely for some underhand reason.

They no doubt do spend more than they should but unfortunately almost every team in the Championship do that these days so you can't exactly say it's fair that Wigan have gone down having overspent.

There's nothing stopping other owners pulling the plug and going into Administration. Even if they have shown proof of funding it doesn't mean they are going to use it, particularly if as looks likely in this case, other parts of his business were going tits up. In this instance, there's little else the EFL could have done under the current rules and regulations.

Going into administration is surely breaking the rules resulting in a 12 point deduction?
