Nothing, but nothing, can beat Romario’s antics in the WC (2002?).  Brazil vs Turkey, and Brazil get a corner (or the play is near the corner flag - can’t quite remember).  Turkish player kicks the ball in frustration towards Romario - hits him below the knees (edit having seen the link, just above his knees) The cheating get goes to the ground holding his face, and the Turk gets sent off.

Apart from the drug use in International Cycling (is it a 'sport' anymore as a result?), I think football has to have the largest number of cheats playing it than any other sport I can think of.

Running to corners after scoring used to be about going to your fans, housed there in away games. Now prevents restart
Picking the ball up after referee awards a free kick, running away and then dropping it
Standing on the ball to prevent a quick restart.
All classed as “professionalism”

Easy to prevent some of it. Touching the ball after the ref has blown by the offending team? Yellow card.

It’s what at times makes the game hateful to watch.
