Once the Oxford vaccine is approved by the MRSA, then the volume of vaccinations will increase dramatically.
You can criticise the government but we’re well ahead of other nations with this

MHRA. They will approve within the next week.

The science seems to now be moving behind a single jab being sufficiently effective to give 90% effectiveness. We are due to have around 40 million doses of the Oxford / AZ vaccine available by the end of March, which is (at one dose per person) easily enough to get everyone even remotely at risk covered and then more beyond that. The issue is whether the Government can organise the mass vaccination programme quickly and effectively. The tools are there, but they are in the hands of a circus chimp.

To get back to the OP,
I suspect the govt, in conjunction with the PL and EFL decided that re starting football, even behind closed doors was worthy of the risks balanced against the mental well-being of many millions that rely on the national game being part of their normal routine. I am not a psychologist but I reckon this was a factor.

We all want to see an end to Covid and a return to normality. We can only get there when enough people are vaccinated and the number of infections and deaths are minimal.

Even at one million vaccinations a week, that is only 500,000 people vaccinated (with 2 doses each). 52 weeks to this time next year will mean only half the population will have had both doses at the current rate. Personally, I don’t know anyone who is over 80 and had it yet, or even been contacted. As an over-65 myself, I won’t get the vaccination before the end of March. So I see no chance of fans returning to the Keepmoat before the end of the season as few will have been vaccinated. I also think with all the postponements we have seen already the season is unlikely to be completed properly before the European games start, so at some point the season will be abandoned. It only takes either team to have Covid and the postponements will just keep pushing us back. We might have a bad winter with snow and frozen pitches. We have already seen our away game against Oxford pushed back due to international commitments, and now the rescheduled game on 5th Jan will be pushed back again due to Covid.

Rovers need to be in or around the top 6 if when the season gets abandoned or we will miss out again. I agree, it has been a difficult season to keep enthusiasm high.

I must have already been vaccinated by something for I am still enthusiastic about Rovers and can’t get enough of them on I follow .I fail to see how any supporter would turn their back on watching them play .

The undeniable fact is that Rovers are sitting in 4th place with a game in hand over the top 2 places. We are having a brilliant season with every chance of promotion. But the physical participation from fans has to be non-existent so it doesn’t feel real. We can’t easily share what a great season we are really having. In extremely difficult times Darren and the board are doing a great job. It will be a very emotional time when fans get back in the Keepmoat, which could well be next season.

The new vaccine can be delivered to a lot of people, as the second one can be delayed for up to 12 weeks apparently, I will get one before my birthday at this rate! Happy with that, so long as a large proportion get the vaccine we will be generally safe. Finally I can see an end to this pandemic, at least in this country by May/June.

RD, yes it is two shots, but the first shot is the major defence and the authorities stated they are going to concentrate on rolling out the first shot  this morning which will give the required protection before administering the second dose.

So, confusion already being introduced with this extended gap between the first and second jab.  Listening on Radio Five and two seemingly contrary messages coming out in less than 30 minutes.  The first that the government want to get people through the first jab to get the maximum numbers protected quickly - seems entirely reasonable and at least somebody appears to be trying to get the maximum benefit in the shortest time but then shortly after some expert imploring people to ensure they get the follow-up jab as the first one provides minimal protection (I'm paraphrasing here).

The perceptive amongst you will note I've not posted on here since the beginning of the year. Lots of reasons for that.
Mainly, I've completely lost interest in football.
As a season ticket holder I can access ifollow free for every home game. I've not watched it once. Saw the two FA Cup games. We won. Meh.
I look for thr results and if we win, OK. If we lose, never mind. It's only a game.
I've watched some Premier League games on Sky. In my opinion, most have been like watching training sessions. Awful.
And am I the only person who thinks that it's time football should also be put on hold, like the rest of of most people's lives? Why should a football team from a tier 4 area be travelling to a tier 2/3 area when it's illegal for everyone else to do it? They will be using service stations, maybe staying overnight in hotels.
I know top flight clubs are being tested regularly, but according to the Ipswich manager for lower league clubs, it's not that often.
We now have four games on the run postponed due to Covid. Six games were off in League One on Boxing Day due to Covid.
Time for football to get its priorities right.

I haven't watched a live game since Wall were at Forest in March. 3-0 win away from home with the travelling support going mental!
That's how it should be or not at all. Suspend all football and stick all the players on a grand a week. I watch the highlights on quest on the rare occasion that we score a goal. I'll tell you one thing though the first game we are all allowed back in should be a riot.

Whilst I wouldn't want to turn this into a political post, but as a few people have criticised the Government, let's just thank God that Corbyn and his sidekicks Abbot and McDonnell didn't win last Decembers election. Or even his replacement, Captain Hindsight.

If we did then when fans are allowed back I’m guessing the club would put on some sort of Testimonial game like he had a few years back.
