It looks like Jones for Blackburn. Great start to the New Year.......not.

Many people crying out for young Jones to be given a go - so if Lumley is unavailable and no-one else comes in he'll get a go.

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

It is, when he’s the only keeper we have!

Yeah I can go with that but am sure there'll be another one on the way in if Lumley isn't

Yes, there probably will, but it’s unsettling and the defence have to reset again to another keeper’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s far from ideal, especially being in 4th place in the league.

If DM had any hair, he’d have pulled it all out by now!

Darren always has something up his sleeve and he has done us proud so far. So why doubt him, even if the new goalie arrives the day before the match?

There is no ideal at the moment when the squad will be just coming back from a Covid outbreak and won't have played together for 10 days or so.

Give the lad a break, he has not let us down yet, and if we start judging players before a ball is even kicked in a game it is time to give up, and in some supporters cases that will be commenting they have never even seen the lad play at all or at least very very rarely.
It's not two month ago that some wanted him to replace the England age group keeper who is now a regular starter in the Championship at Stoke City and is doing well enough to have an article in a national news paper dedicated to him and the promise he is showing.
 Don't panic MR Mannering.

I don't mind Jones getting the opportunity against Blackburn. It might be QPR are playing awkward with Lumley deal if they are interested in Whiteman and we arent playing ball with it who knows but I'm sure DM will have other options.

Let’s get one thing straight, I am not doubting young Jones (where have I even hinted that might be the case?) - the lad is an up and coming young keeper and I don’t have a problem with that.

Glass half empty? If you think this is a good, positive thing to happen right now, then you need to get a new glass, never mind put anything in it!

I’m perfectly aware that the manager has been incredible throughout his tenure with us and I have never, ever knocked him since he came. I think, like most sensible people, I’ve had to scratch my head at times and wonder just how does he do it, given the hurdles him, and his management team, have had to get over.

No doubt in my mind that QPR are playing silly games with the situation and see it as an opportunity for them. Especially with our captain being looked at very seriously right now.

Having said all that, it is far from an ideal situation for us right now, being in   such a good positive position in the league. And this is only the first problem  to sort, as we have the Tulloch thing to sort and Sims situation to resolve. I think it’s a little disrespectful of the manager to just glibly think he’ll just pull another rabbit out of his hat. There’s far more to it than that.

Alan,

I think you are showing a tad more concern than is warranted at the moment. Having chatted with Gavin recently it was quite apparent that Lumley wouldn't be part of any deal for Ben, even if QPR had made more that a passing reference to him. So, that doubt in your mind needs to be put to rest.

The club are trying to extend Lumley's loan deal with us, but if that doesn't, or can't happen, they have other names on the list.

Wouldn't this be Jones 5th senior game, and make us ineligible for an emergency loan keeper?

If we did sign a keeper it wouldnt be an emergency loan.

Personally i'm not a fan of chopping and changing keepers..End of the day it's time for DM to make a decision..The emergency loan system is very unfair on young Jones especially. It gives him zero to aim for as the rules state if we have a emergency keeper he has to play.So he knows he cant play regardless of form.

Lumley has done well for us better than Bursik in my opinion but i'm looking forward to us signing a keeper on loan for the rest of the season and letting the two of them push each other for that no1 spot on gameday.

The Jan window is open now,so we have options again now, before when Bursik went back we only had the emergency loan and Jones to use.

Thanks for that, Martin. Appreciated.

Looking at it from QPR’s perspective, they could be in for a bit of a windfall if Dieng is sold on and if they used Lumley as a make-weight to get Whiteman, it would leave them with plenty left for further manoeuvring in January.

The comments I'd heard from the QPR fans I know about Lumley weren't favourable but I think he's done well and if we can get him back on loan for the rest of the season then I'd be happy with that.

If he won't be coming back, I've no issue with Jones starting on Saturday as a short-term solution but we would need another keeper in by the Swindon game on the 16th. We've never been the fastest-acting of clubs in January but you'd hope that it would be realistic to have someone in by then given we've known for a while that we needed to bring someone in with January and apparently have a list of names at the ready if it's not going to be Lumley.

it's looking unlikely Lumley will be returning and we have another young championship keeper lined up if the jungle drums are correct.

Losing Lumley is not the end of the world. He has been alright, decent at times, but not a world-beater and we do have Jones. I'm quite confident the club can find a suitable goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

No need for panic at all.

Why would QPR want Lumley to be cup-tied, it makes sense for them to not want him playing on Saturday.

I’ve every faith in Jones, my only concern is that if he plays we then need another keeper anyway as we exclude emergency loans (obviously outside the window)

Lumley is already cup tied with us, he played in the 2-1 FA Cup win at Carlisle.
