Looks strange on the face of it but Stockport may well be back in the league next season and if it's a three year deal he's got that security. Plus, being frank you'd class Stockport as a "bigger" club than Fleetwood which will matter to some.

Read that his goal against us last month made him Fleetwood's record EFL goalscorer.

National League or L2, next season I reckon Madden will get a hatful of goals.

Fleetwood have been holding a fire sale, with some big earners moved off the books.
Evans out to Preston as an example.

Stockport are pushing the boat out to get back into the EFL, and have a decent chance this year.
I doubt Madden will be out of pocket making this move.

I assume his contract was cancelled at Fleetwood then
Oh dear it looks like the owner is tiring of Fleetwood
Great signing for Stockport, I’d love to see them back in the league

How does this work outside of the transfer window?

Only applies to PL/FL clubs.

Anyway, if his contract was cancelled he would then be a free agent wouldn’t he.

As far as I’m aware he would only be a free agent if his contract was cancelled during the transfer window

Improved package and 3 year deal will have been significant for him... He's 31 and that's a good bit of bit of security for him- plus it can only be an hour away from Fleetwood also......and closer to the airport.  I bet Butts will know him from Scunny.

Madden was at Scunthorpe from 2014 to 2018, when Andy Butler was playing for Rovers.

I’ve been predicting for ages how the hell can Fleetwood have all these experienced pros on their books & it looks like the chickens are coming home to roost

Very surprised at this, and a great signing for Stockport.

Exactly. I did say it wouldn’t last. Their owner will be getting tired of bankrolling the club season after season with little prospect of the club getting to the Championship.

All their big earners are disappearing off the pay roll one by one. They are a very small club punching way above their level. It can only last so long.

They've just beaten in-form Ipswich 2-0.

But the so-called “very small club” have just beaten the “the in-form big club”, Ipswich Town, 2-0.

That doesn’t make them a bigger club than Ipswich though. Yes any team can beat any team on the day.
That wasn’t the point i was making.
The owner is not prepared to carry on funding the club to the same level any more and with the level of support they get and the limited commercial revenue they can attract without the massive amount of money the owner has been putting in they will have a huge uphill battle to remain a League 1 club for much longer.

Well they are unlikely to be going down this season.
Fifty points on the board already.
