Home defeats sequence
« on August 08, 2021, 02:21:34 pm by Dutch Uncle »
We have now suffered 6 successive home defeats in League matches, for only the fourth time in our Football League and Conference history.

The last time was six home games in the Championship in 2011-12

Prior to that the other two occasions were 6 home games in the Division 4 season of 1991-92, and a club record of 8 successive home League matches lost in our self destruct season of 1997-98.

Three of the four thus involving seasons ending in x1-x2.

We need this monkey off our back ASAP.

Well we are a different team to last season so we can’t pin that record on this manager or group of players.

Totally agree with that Campsall. I also believe that after a slow start we are likely to be OK this season.

New team and we lose 1st game. You would think the world has just caved in judging from comments on here.

I said yesterday if we don’t win can we not have a meltdown on here.
I said that’s impossible. Well surprise surprise I was right.

We have some very good players in this squad. As has been said it will take time for them to gel.  Yes the performance was not great yesterday but no where near as bad as is being made out by some.  Goals win games and two errors cost us.

As for Barlow and Gardner being the worst two we have ever signed, we’ll MG go and tell that to RW. Do you think you have a better insight to a players ability than our manager?
They are both good signings and if RW can get the best out of Barlow he will score 10 goals or more this season with loads of assists to boot.

This!
At last, someone who has posted some sense, instead of the usual rubbish following the first match of the season.

Campsall I take it you didn’t go the game??? They were terrible and most on here would agree!! Your trying to be positive and fair enough but your in for a big shock this season mate, nobody seemed to be fit, and the biggest concern for me was 1 up front with nobody running off and in the second half the front 2-3 just stood there absolutely no movement and bostock was fuming and rightly so.

I thought some of his passing was superb when he came on.

Yes I was there of course

Oh dear Michael you want a great performance, well I have news for you. You will have to wait.
Rome was not built in a day.

Have you been to the Pre Season games? I promise you Barlow and Gardener are good players.
That is why RW has given them contracts.

All you are looking for is negatives. There are always positives to take from a game and RW will be working on the areas that need improving.
Yes there is plenty of room for that, i have not said once that it was a satisfactory performance.

Give RW time. This is not a job which will bring instant success.

We were loosing, needing to score but he slowed the game down even more and a lot his passes were either sideways or backwards

pre-season when i looked at the fixture list

me thought the early home matches looked quite kind

and the away  hard

in the season he "won" (loose term)  the championship with Swindon he had some "wonky results early" on   ....
games  that you would not expect him to lose ......... til he sorted it out

Disagree with this,
He was very good when he came on, dictated the play and gave us some much needed control and possession.
Passing backwards and sidewards shouldn’t be looked at as a negative, it drags people about and creates space and openings.

Bostock looked good in Midfield and was always looking for the ball and a positive forward pass.  The problem was that when it wasn’t on, it had to go sideways or backwards…. and that wasn’t his fault. On that brief showing, a fully fit Bostock will be a big asset to our team this season.

Much as I want him to be a success, I'm still not convinced by Bostock. His involvement on Saturday was all very much "comfort zone" distribution, both in terms of pace and ambition. And his free kick deliveries were dreadful.

Bostock looks to me like he's starved of opportunities to provide probing passes because of the lack of intelligent movement from the players in front of him, which is obviously something he's not much used to having previously played at a higher level. He often looks 'snookered' and has to play safe by sideways or backwards passes as a result.
