I remember him from his Yorkshire TV days.

Without doubt his finest hour was pulling this on live TV.

As an MP, not so much.

Fantastic to watch that interview again BST.

Clough was always an appointment which was doomed to failure. He had slated some of the finest footballers of that era in public. He even said that Peter Lorimer did not deserve the Yorkshire Sport award he won.

How on earth was he ever going to get any respect from that group of players.
It was a bizarre appointment and Johnny Giles should most definitely have got the job as Revie said.
If that had happened i firmly believe the Club would have stayed amongst the elite for another 10 to 15 years.
But we will never know will we.

He was on the same Hull train from London one Friday night. I guess they were a group of MPs or government people at least. The first class section was open on those Hull trains, just a few more spacious seats in the carriage really.

They weren't half knocking the vino back. Austin was red in the face and speaking very loudly by the time I got off at Doncaster. I remember thinking I'd like to ask him about Brian Clough but didn't want to interrupt the drinking session.

It's some interview, if you didn't know who the characters were you could think it was the opening to a Monty Python sketch.
